Just picked this up from the post office, thanks to Armtac who were kick ass to deal with.

This is how it came to me:

And this is what I added. I had a UBR sitting here that I ordered when OST had them on special. I also put a Magpul RSA on it so I could hook my Original SOE 2 point sling to it with the HK snap adapter.

The NSR rail is super tiny. It's thinner than the Noveske KX3.

If you're thinking of getting the NSR, it's pretty cool, I imagine I'm going to have to shoot it with gloves on though if I do any amount of shooting.

Also picked up the Noveske NSR QD adapter, but unfortunately it's too shallow for all the QD swivels I have, hence the RSA and HK adapter on my sling. I have some Diamondhead flip up sights on the way, going to just run irons and practice using them since I suck with irons. Going to save up and get a T1 and Larue mount at some point, when I feel like dropping the $600+ on them.

EDIT: I guess I should list all the parts:

Noveske Gen 2 lower
Vltor MUR upper
Noveske stainless 7.5" barrel
BCM BCG
CMT LPK
Noveske NSR rail
Noveske KX3 flash enhancer
Magpul UBR

RE-EDIT: Also, never mind about the swivel attachment point being too shallow, had to look at another picture of it on the web to figure out that I had it installed wrong. It's installed right and is now working fine. Oops.

Chris @ Armtac is as you know great to deal with, so +1 there.

Was waiting to see how the NSR looked on your build/order as you mentioned it previously in PMs'. There seems to be mixed thoughts on it over the interwebz thus far, but the NSR system reminds me of the fore -end of an MP5. For someone looking for a minimilistic aproach to a Rail, it fits the bill nicely.

Well played

Yeah, I just wanted something that looked cool and was minimal. I think the shape of this just looks better than those tube fore ends. Only downside is the lack of accessories for it, but all I need on this one is a place to attach my sling and I'm happy.

Nice! You should post this in the PDW pictures thread as well!
+1 in all my dealings with Chris @ Armtac.

Accessories tend to be overrated, anyway. I have a new PDW build on the way similar to yours, and I went the "minimalistic" route as well (sling mounts, maybe a hand stop - that's it).

Will do.

And my sling mount is kind of my hand stop. My thumb hits the sling mount and I stop. Might not want to put a bunch of pressure on it so my hand doesn't slip off and touch the KX3, but a good reference point either way, and the rail is so narrow I pretty much wrap my entire hand around it and hold on really tight.. Haven't actually shot this yet, been raining here and I've been being lazy about going to the range.

I think the days of the standard full quad rail are numbered. Especially with rails like the NSR (where they've now open-sourced the specs) and KAC URX 3.1 (which is what I went with).

As retarded as it sounds, I probably would have gone with something like a tube on my 14.5" AR if the aesthetics of 90% of them didn't make me want to gouge my eyes out. I figure if I'm spending good money on custom building something, might as well think it's ###y.

When I saw the NSR on Armtac's website, I knew that's what I wanted for my PDW. I'm highly considering getting the 13" for my other AR and selling off the 9" DD rail. I do have a flashlight mount for my AR, but honestly I've never used it, and was just something tacticool to have. Only other thing I have is a RFG, but I don't think I really need it, and the polymer panels are out now for the NSR where you can configure a handstop if you want.

Just found this on Google image search, it's a 13.5" rail.

I think it looks pretty cool, although if I were going to put the polymer panels on it, I'd buy multiple sets so I could cover the whole thing, if not just for aesthetics, than at least some kind of heat shield.

I see BCM, dimpled Barrel & a Battlecomp. Sweet!
Maybe it was the way some of the pics I had seen on the interwebz threw me off. That actually doesn't look half-bad

Looks like they're going to be coming out with a Keymod version of the VIS too:

That would be pretty interesting.

Not in the least, although I agree with the limitations/aesthetics of just a straight tube. My 8" KAC URX 3.1 rail is lighter than a Magpul MOE carbine hand guard - and that's even before the standard delta ring and forward cap assemblies.

For me it's all about the weight savings and ergonomics. Most of these quad rails are so sharp that you pretty much have to install rail covers just to keep from cutting yourself or snagging on everything. And the extra thickness then makes it less user-friendly to handle.

I really think these streamlined/ultralight rail systems are the wave of the future.

That VIS KMOD looks pretty slick

@blaxsun - i don't think you'll see an influx of current style Rails on the EE just yet. I do agree with you that this could be the new trend in Rail design though. It'll be interesting to see who joins in on KAC & Noveske' train of thought on this.

I am definitely noticing a trend to the reduced quad rail, either a single full length top rail with modular panels, or side rails (and bottom) that are only at the front and back. It seems like just about every major AR manufacture has one or is working on one. Which makes perfect sense to me; the ergonomics on the thinner lighter hand guard are almost incomparable to a full quad rail, and having a 9” quad rail it is hard to imagine how you would ever use up all the space without just hanging crap on it for fun.
