Hi everyone,

Well, I'm not quite "finished" yet, I still need to receive the front nose cap screw. But other than that, she's back from Bubba's world, looking - I think - a bit better. The bayonet (also Australian) was in really ugly shape with power grinder marks on half the blade... yuck! I did remove most (by hand...) and reblued the damaged area. Still rust pitting visible, but some improvement nonetheless. Sorry about the poor quality pics, I'll try to take daytime pics soon...

Oops, sorry oldlithgow, forgot to say it's a 1939. The metal is quite nice, but there is slight pitting of the bore. Fun thing is that the rear sight and bolt numbers match the barrel and receiver.

It came with super-sanded sporterized stock, sad indeed. But The stuff that's on it now is all Drill Purpose wood - except maybe the butt, it may have come from another sportized rifle, I can't be sure anymore...

The Aussie government ordered its war reserve of 415,000 Lithgow SMLE rifles, over 1150 Brens, and Owen guns destroyed in the early 90's..these weapons had been FTR after WW2 ,several years later its stocks of the 7.62 mm SLR, rifles.a figure of 110,000 is quoted..the Aussie version of our FN C1 rifle were sent to the smelter...same as our Liberals did to our FN C1,C2 and 9mm smg

Hard to find wood

I know what you mean about finding wood, but I lucked out a few years ago and found some well marked wood for a 1915 Lithgow and that is the next project. That is if I find all the parts ,still looking for the right trigger guard and volley sight:eek:.

You sure it's 415K SMLEs? I had heard they sold them to India, not that they had been melted down.

Well it took a while, but here are some nicer pics

Hi everyone,

Finally received the missing screw so now I can show the truly finished product :)
