The Walther PPX deal is great. I like buying used and 9mm is the way to go long term, i'd say M&P

So the main ones I've noticed and looked at: norinco 1911, S & P M&P, Jericho, FNH, ruger 22/45, SAM 1911, girsan, Walther PPX, GSG , or smith and Wesson

Do all these manufactures have good quality or is there a clear 1st, 2nd, 3rd that stands out as superior ?

The quality varies even in big name companies to me in 9mm the value / quality and accuracy winner is CZ SP-01 after that it's a toss up

I just bought a PPX for my wife. It looks kinda clunky but wow does it shoot well. The odd grips fit both her hands and mine and it has a beautiful trigger. We paid $550 from our LGS.

What options do I have for a pistols in 22LR, 9MM or .45ACP that cost around $500?

about the same amount of options as if you were looking for a 4-door sedan that burns gasoline and costs around 20k.

Unless your talking about someone whos last name is Bush, no 9mm is not enough, and neither ar .40s&w and 45acp... try .357 magnum at minimum... or 10mm for a semi.

Just recieved my 500.00 M&P45 this morning, i was a little worry about the trigger since the reviews were'nt stellars but i have to admit i am plaisantly surprised, as the trigger and reset is on par with my G17 gen 4m maybe even a notch better...

This one must the one with the improved trigger they are talking about in reviews...

It feel extremely good in the hand with the medium insert...
