NEW powder funnel for RL 550 9mm binding...Is it normal?

Hello all,
I just received the 9mm conversion kit for my RL 550.
I set it and all seemed correctly installed and the case would produce a bell ring to sit the bullet.
BUT the case would bind with the brand new powder funnel that I have to strike the handle VERY hard like three or four time to get the case out from the powder funnel/bell die.

Is this normal?
is it to be expected some "break in"?
I'm afraid of breaking the shell plate....
I tried to put some oil onto the funnel die, and it helps... just a bit....
I do not lube my 9mm cases...

any suggestion?

Same here.
I’m using brand new RCBS carb die setthe flare is as you described, just enough to hold the bullet in place.
I tried different depth even no flare and all jams.
The powder funnel is marked as size “F”.

Will try to have picture tonigh.
Leaving for work now.

Size "F" is the correct size for 9mm.

I had issues with the powder funnel binding on new unfired brass. Once I tumbled the brass in walnut media with some polish the issue went away.
 
I'd call dillon. Use your calipers to measure the diameter and double check that it's the proper size. I was given a second 45LC powder funnel and when I went to use it I noted it was much harder to extract from my brass vs my old one. I measured and I believe the one that was given to me was outside of tolerance on the large side.
 
I'm getting this problem with my 650 also with a Mr bullet feeder powder funnel. I'm lubing the funnel and the brass lightly with lanolin and it helps. I believe it's because the brass gets to clean and dry from the wet tumbling
 
It is common with 9mm due to the tapered case. As also mentioned above once I got a stainless wet tumbler the problem increased. Nickel plated cases were even worse.

First I cleaned the funnel regularly (you could see scrape marks and brass left over vertically on the tube).
Second I shoved the tube in my lathe and used 320/600/1200 wet dry to slightly reduce the diameter and polish the tube.
Third I started using One Shot Dry Lube.

The above helps considerably.

I ordered the Mr Bullet Feed funnel to see if it helps even more. Will have it next week I expect.

I didn’t think this would need to be lubed....
oh, well just another think learned.

Generally speaking Paul is spot on. It's the taper of the 9mm cases that makes them the best candidate for sticking. I think starline brass offers (or use to offer) to shorten your funnel and polish it. The shortening does not allow the funnel to protrude too far into the case. That way the taper doesn't "grab" the funnel.
Oh ya, use lube!

It is the MBF funnel - they are reselling it.

Hoping I'll get an improvement...... although clean polish and lube has helped with the OEM funnel.

Why is it very hard to get expander and powder funnel back out of case?

If the MBL unit does not improve anything I'll chuck the OEM one back in the lathe and try modding it myself.
 
Let me know how it works for you------could be the start of a new cottage industry for you! MBF funnel made no difference for me; it stuck just as well as the oem.
