Ok…. So I found a source for pure lead, bought a mold and dipper, and located a spot where I can safely melt the stuff down.
New problem – I ordered a single cavity .45 cal ball mold to fit my .44 Remington BP. I opened the box with the mold in it (from Cabelas) and find a double mould that looks like if should fit .45ACP. :mad:

Can I use this mould or should I send it back?
 
Is it a conical ball mold they look like a 45 auto bullet but the rear driving band is usually smaller. I'll see if I have some cast and post a pic. what size do they cast at?

What is the brand of the Mold they sent you? and product number?

I have a double cavity mold from LEE, product number 90382, it is specially made for the 44 Remington cap & ball revolver;
Weight of projectile 200gr, rounded nose 1R
Diam .450
It looks indeed like a 45 Auto Colt Pistol round nose bullet, and has 2 lube bands.

More info on what they sent you will help determine the suitability...as well what is the revolver you indend to use it with?...Ruger had a modern black powder pistol that needed a special diameter bullet if i recall,,,

I have an Uberti Remington 1858 44 and use .454 round ball or the same diameter conical. When you seat the round you should be cutting a sliver of lead off as it enters the cylinder to ensure a good seal.

It shouldn't be a problem, I use the identical mold to cast conicals for one my Walker's and a buddy has used them for his Remington.
