Calibre. Think of calibres in the 308/6.5cm/etc family, they are all short action. 30-06 is the "original standard" for long action

IIRC the vast majority of Lefty Americans are short action. They made a few of the base model in 30-06 (long action) a while ago, but as far as I am aware that is the only one. Anything 308 based (7mm08, 243win, 308 itself), or 6.5CM are short action.
