New product to Stun and Amaze.

But does it have a powerful enough shock to deter any predators?

I would think it would deter a bear that's poking around somewhere because it's curious, one that's p---ed off probably would not care about it.

Note: Never personally used one or had one used on me so my statement is more or less worthless

I don't think I'd be giving a curious bear the ol' zap as a sign to move along. The business end on the hike n strike is at the top of the handgrip, and the on switch is 1/3 way down the pole. That's still to close for that kind of work if the bear takes offence to the recharge offer. Standing back and sparking the stick a few times might be a less traumatizing experience for both parties - I would start there at least.

We've got black bear, wolves, neighbourhood dogs, and no street lights, so I can see this being handy.:d

Also, the snowshoe hare can be vicious - I saw a medieval documentary on Caerbannog about it.

Just waiting for pay day, then I'll order one. Built in flashlight is nice too.

My wife uses the JetBeam BC20 for now, but the control is kinda junky on it, so the backup would be good.

They are new on the market.

I see that they only hit the US side last summer, but I was still hoping.

Timing was near perfect for this thread; my wife had a weird interaction on a walk on the weekend, and was reconsidering the stun-baton.

We were lamenting that there was no hiking stick version only a few days ago and then, voila, Canada Ammo makes the world a better place yet again.

I swear Gun Santa can hear me.

how to you use the stick? It appears the electrodes are covers by a rubber ring on the bottom. Do you have to take that off to make it be able to zap?

Watching the promo vids it looks like:

The rubber ring is on the top, with the flashlight in the middle.

You take off the rubber to expose the electrodes, turn on the switch at the lower handgrip to make it ready; then press the button on the other side of the bottom handgrip to spark it up.

Flashlight is toggled by a button on the top handgrip.

The walking point is either a rubber foot, or an ice spike.

Sounds like we need a video to find out!

In all honesty tho, cattle prods legal and have been used to 'encourage' animals to move and keep away. They are in the same voltage range. My guess would be that they need to be big enough to move a moose but safe enougH incase you accidentally zing yourself.

Looks like the zapper part is where you would put your thumb when walking.....ouch!
