New production model 70 quality?

I got a Extreme weather M70 in 264 a couple years ago. Made by browning in Portugal. Very nice rifle. Way nicer than my friends mid 90's gun.

I've had several newer production Model 70 - I really like them.

My favorites are both Extreme Weathers - one in .264Win Mag and the other is a .300WSM with brake. Both really good shooters. My biggest problem is deciding which one do I take with me. Best I can decide is 300wsm for weekdays and .264WM for weekends.

Have had M-70's in pre 64, push feeds and have 3 of the newer ones. The latter being the best of the lot for the money in my opinion. Have had no issue with the newer MOA trigger. I have noticed mine will not set lighter than 3 Ibs. I suspect that's been a mandate by the legal folks. For hunting purposes 3 Ib. is just fine for me. I can not see any reasonable person being disappointed with a new M-70, a fine quality rifle.

I read somewhere that the rotating claw extractor on the new Winchester Model 70 was no longer made from tempered spring steel.

Is this correct?

Maybe spring steel was never actually necessary for this part?

I have two new production model 70’s Extreme Weathers, needless time say after handling my first Model 70 there is no going back. I am looking to acquire a third now; a Classic Stainless in 375.

...But now I just read that this actually was a problem with the first of the new CRF Model 70's but was corrected years go....so I just answered my own question.

As far as construction goes I would have to say pre 64 is far superior.Bolt is one piece ,extrator is spring steel not investment cast and the old trigger was better if tuned by someone who knows how to do it.I really dont like the new barrel threads 1.062 x 28 tpi, have had more than one gall the threads on barrel removal .Older is better take it from an old guy lol.
