new production, non corrosive Norinco white box ammo is actually corrosive?

I purchased 800rds of the stuff from the SFRC. Its listed there as Non-corrosive. I fired about 30 rounds through two SVT rifles and where ever the gas touched they frosted up two weeks after with a fair bit of rust. I contacted the SFRC and told them and they simply told me it is new production non corrosive. Even when I sent videos of the guns shooting that ammo, along with the guns rusted i received no reply. I even left a review on the ammo for being actually corrosive and it appears to have been blocked. I spoke to a few other people saying the same thing. The white box stuff is corrosive. That might be well known but I figured I'd atleast mention it before someone else does what I did.

Not listed as non corosive on their web site anymore

he said he tested 5 and left it and had no rust in the bore but he would remove the non corrosive on them anyways. I asked him to shoot a few more rounds if he had not gotten rust and i have yet to hear back.

Yah, for almost twice the cost of Mil ($400/ 14-1500), just buy Cor and get over it. Takes an extra 5 min for cleaning with a bit of water, which you should do after each outing anyway.

Sounds like the Marstar fiasco from quite a few years ago.

(JOHN Marstar not the new Marstar)

A number of businesses both on CGN and off had this issue over the years ... they rely on the wholesaler’s word who relies on the supplier’s word ... which is why the recommendation is to always treat as corrosive.

To clarify, even after John was told, he denied it was corrosive. He then changed his add, and stated it was always listed as corrosive. Didn’t learn his lesson then and then carried on with the Italian Garand BS.

I didn’t even know or perhaps remember that one, but others have had the same issue … some changed their ads and others doubled down on the claim … but I’m thinking of both Chinese 7.62x39 and 7.62x54r.

The garand fiasco was a while back. Long story short: old marstar owner claimed he had Italian garands and was selling at a premium, only for buyers to find out they’ve spent thousands on cobbled together mixed parts guns with dangerously out of spec headspace and some even had material removed from the lugs so it would lock up amongst a bunch of other issues. The thread is still on here it’s pretty entertaining.

As for the ammo, if it is copper washed/comes in a spam can/comes from China, just treat it as corrosive. I am not aware of any surplus 54r on the market today that isn’t corrosive (but could be wrong).

He did remove it being non corrosive from the ad. But it isn't listed as corrosive but new production and it seems he deleted the 800rd pack I reviewed as corrosive ammo. He also never got back to me after I asked him to shoot more ammo (than the 5 he said he shot) and see if it rusted the rifle. I provided photos of three guns rusted from it. Genuinely disappointed and that will be my last SFRC purchase. And again. If I go shoot 5 rounds from two rifles don't want to do a full strip and clean. Especially on an Svt with all its little parts and nooks. I bought non corrosive ammo so I wouldn't have to clean that mess in my Svts. Or risk rust if I missed a spot in any of my other older finnish mosins.
