new prohibit mags?

4. Magazines designed for one firearm but used in a different firearm

The maximum permitted capacity of a magazine is determined by the kind of firearm it is designed or manufactured for use in and not the kind of firearm it might actually be used in. As a consequence, the maximum permitted capacity remains the same regardless of which firearm it might be used in.

Example:
The Marlin model 45 (Camp Carbine) rifle chambered for 45 Auto caliber uses magazines designed and manufactured for the Colt 1911 handgun, therefore the seven round and eight round capacities are permitted. A similar example is the 10 round capacity magazine for the Rock River Arms LAR-15 pistol, regardless of the kind of firearm it is actually used in.

I believe he is refering to this...

3. Magazines designed or manufactured for both centrefire calibre semiautomatic rifles and other (non-semiautomatic) rifles

Magazines designed to contain centrefire cartridges and designed or manufactured for use in a semiautomatic rifle are limited to five cartridges. However, magazines designed to contain centrefire cartridges and designed or manufactured for use in a rifle other than a semiautomatic or automatic rifle, do not have a regulated capacity. Magazines that are designed or manufactured for use in both semiautomatic rifles and other (non-semiautomatic) rifles are subject to the semiautomatic rifle limit of five cartridges.

Example:
Remington model 7615 pump action rifle chambered for 223 Remington caliber:

the 10 round magazine is prohibited
the five round magazine is unregulated

The new Charger has a 15 round mag, so it may not be sold here, at any rate, keep abreast of what the RCMP is doing. My LAR mags are prohib now for my 7615 as well, and its a pump! Had to pin them as well. The regs have not changed, its the way they have been interpreted by our National Police force.
Please tell me why you had to pin PISTOL mags.

The LAR mag functions in the 7615, The LAR is a pistol mag, the 7615 rifle mag is 5 round, if Remington made a 30 round mag for the 7615, it would be legal, I had to pin the LAR mag to 5 round to comply with mag regs as informed by the RCMP.

Wow. Let me try to set you straight.
Your LAR pistol mags can be used in your 7615, and they can hold 10 rounds legally.
If Remington made a 30 round mag for the 7615 it would still have to be pinned at 5 rounds.
You did not have to pin your LAR pistol mags to use them in your 7615.

For the win!

This thread will either end very badly or go epic

The RCMP have mis informed you of their own bulletin 72.
I cant believe for one moment they would do this.

You dont pin LAR pistol nags to five rounds EVER

lol you actually pinned LAR pistol mags? hahahahhahahah

if its marked LAR pistol means it can hold 10 rounds legally its totally up to you what firearm you want to use it in.

Gotto love people who can't read the rules on mags, and then argue with people who can. LAR mags are pistol mags and do not need to be pinned to 5 rounds if you use them in a rifle that happens to accept the mag. Not magic, not a loop hole, just the damned way it is. Mags are the objects that are prohibited.Say you own an unpinned centerfire mag that holds 30 rounds and you don't own a firearm that can use said mag, it is still illegal to own, sort of like having 1 kg of cocaine on you even if you don't take drugs. Using the same logic, A magazine that is designed to use in a pistol is prohibited if it holds more than 10 rounds (of the kind of ammo it was made to hold). If it holds 10 rounds it is not prohibited. Now you have this non prohibited mag that luckily fits in a rifle with no modification to the mag, nothing has changed the mag is still not a prohibited device even is you use it in a rifle. Why because it is marketed as a pistol mag, not as a pistol and rifle mag, and not as a rifle mag. It was designed for pistols therefore the rule says 10 rounds are legal in the mag.

Wow I read a great thread like this a while back on same topic.

All I wanna know is how do I get more rounds in my Remington 700 223!!! :dancingbanana:

What's next? Should I pin my 5 round .50 Beowulf mags to only hold 5 rounds of .223? You should phone them back and clarify this situation you got yourself into. Someone fed you a bunch of crap.
