Glad to have found this place.
Just got all my cards & firearms license and already picked up an entry level Savage 243 (wifey was afaid of recoil ... 30-06 coming soon. However, the fact that she also wants to hunt with me is brilliant) and an Excalibur Crossbow. Cant wait for deer season!

Hi.
"...wifey was afraid..." Two words. Gas operated. Mind you, for deer and black bears a .243 will do nicely. Just remember that most factory ammo using lighter than 85 grain bullets is varmint ammo and isn't suitable for large game. Varmint bullets are designed to expand rapidly upon impact with little penetration. You'll have to try a box of as many brannds as you can to find the ammo your riflre shoots best. Then whichever one of you is using it, will have to sight in. You can't do that for somebody else.
