New Reloader!

Glad it was not stuck too far down. I am thinking of reloading too. Thanks for sharing your story...lots to learn. I checked discissions on your load data and 150 gr bullets. Many people felt it left quite a bit of empty space in the cartridge. Maybe all the powder at front of cartridge and not enough primer?

Well - You were shooting outdoors in the wintertime and your last round suffered from poor ignition. I would suggest that the last round had the longest time to cool down and therefore required more ignition energy (kernel). As mentioned previously, ball powders benefit from the use of magnum primers as they are harder to ignite. Magnum primers can be, and are often used as a substitute for large rifle primers with no ill effect, except slightly higher pressures. If you continue to use ball powders then you should go to magnum primers.
Stick powders are extruded powders that are shaped like little logs, and are very common - for 303 that would be IMR 4064, 4895, Re 15, Varget, etc. I use stick powders with LR primers in 303 - never had a problem over the years.

This is what happens fortunately...lol
It is a slippery slope!
More powders to try, more bullets to try, different primers to try, different brass to try, then trying various seating depths to find the best load for your rifle...and that is just for your 303!
Wait until you get another rifle and new dies!
Soon your loading bench is going to look like the reloading department in a small gunshop! LOL
It is very rewarding!
