New Reloading Bench

You are exactly right. I phoned the hardware to talk melamine and found out I was looking for the wrong stuff; they steered me straight, it's laminate that is used for dressing a bench/counter top.
Laminate is $50 bucks a sheet, I'm gonna grab some tonight. I have no idea what color, it's all odds and ends apparently.
Just notice in your photo's that the top is flush with the frame. Most reloaders seem to like a 3/4 inch overhand. I added a 1x4 vertically across the back of mine to seal the back joint with the wall. If yours is flush and you need the 3/4 " this would give it to you. Also, tilted the top just a little maybe half a bubble on the level to the back wall so that shot would roll to the back. Just a thought.

Here's the finished bench. I screwed up a few things because I didn't think stuff out ahead of time, but all-in-all, I'm satisfied. It definitely beats the old bench I had!
All told it cost me somewhere around $550 I'd say. The plywood (5 sheets) was the most expensive thing at $60 bucks a sheet.
I scrapped the laminate counter material. I figured I was gonna need 2 sheets, which woulda run me $100. I figured I'd already spent enough.
I built shelves under the bench this morning. Bought a new cordless phone for the bench; it's still charging.
Built some more shelves up above the gun safe. I actually had 2 old kitchen cabinets up there; measured 'em, figured they'd fit perfect. Spent 2 hours f**king around with them and found out the gun safe wouldn't slide in under them!
Book case with my loading manuals... hunting books...

Dude you have alot of $hit, I have been watching this thread and I thought your bench was huge but wow!! You have alot of $hit.
The most amazing thing occurred to me though. In the last few pics I really noticed something.
You drink KRAP beer. Stop drinking that Japanese american krap.
American because it is brewed in the US and Japanese because it is fermented with Japanese rice. That is why it taste like water.
The Real Budweiser is brewed in Czech republic. They do not call it that in North America though. Copyright laws.
It is called Czechvar. It is the beer Budweiser tried (poorly) to copy. It is at the liquor store. TRY IT

Check your house insurance policy. Mine is restricted to 10 pounds so I am moving the rest out to a detached shed.

Great job! I really like alot of the layout.
Personally I would have added some lights and plug-ins along the top of the bench.
What height is the bench? I have realized my next bench will sit higher so I can stand if I want, sometimes I get a sore ass sitting for a while...

Pretty nice setup. I am moving mine from a spare bedroom to the basement living room so will be busy once the new carpet is installed. And yes you are dangerously low on components, I get nervous if I don't have enough stuff to load several thousand rounds in each caliber. Also keep at least 1000 rds loaded for each rifle...
My working dimensions were kind of forced on me, cuz there's a 3" sewer drain pipe that comes down the wall from the upstairs bathroom. The left side of the bench comes right up to it. If that had not been there I'd have made that side longer, to increase the shelf area. Cannot have too much shelf storage space.
I definitely have to buy more powder, primers, bullets etc... !!
X-fan, you know all I have for a light is a cheap, clamp-on thing that I bought at Home Hardware for $10. I ran a cheap extension cord up the wall, in the corner and have a cheap power bar. But it's got 6 outlets... I think I'm gonna buy another of those el-cheapo clamp-on light fixtures. I really like it and it is easily removeable, which is nice.
As for the insurance thing, I don't know.
mikeelliott, the bench is 30" high. I position a shelf at eye-ball height for the scale to sit on, so I get accurate powder measurement.
corney, I do have the dies and components to load handgun, but haven't gotten into that yet...

very nice bench. pretty sure you're as well stocked with reloading components as most of the shops in the lower mainland!
