Ive got one in .308 and Im really happy with it. I know two people who own the .223 version and they feel the same way. At first I really wasnt into the triangle barrel, but once I saw one built up it started to grow on me and hasnt stopped. It looks a little funny in my safe between my Win .94 and mk4 .303 but that kind of adds to the appeal to me. Its different, I shoot it consistantly out to 600yards (gongs, not paper) and it works fine for what I use it for. The bear I shot with it this past fall didnt seem too offended by the funky barrel.

I got a vtr in 308 and am by no means a longrange shooter but I love my rifle I have it in 308 with a 6500 elite and I use it mainly for hunting and I took a doe 2 years ago at well over 200 meters and it was hit exactly wher I wntad the round to go I love my rifle more than my wife

right on! it seems that manufacturing companies (not just Remington) figure that bells and whistles are the customers Needs! They come up with new looks or gimmicks and then try to invent a convincing story on how it improves something. Harmonics, accuracy,stability,consistancy, on and on. If these companies acutally want to invent something worthwhile, why dont they invent a rifle of conventional design that TRUTHFULLY out performs thier own previous models.(without so many manfacturing flaws), At a significant cost savings to the customer.
As far as I can tell, these huge slabs that are machined off, just increase production time and cost. The cool look isnt that important to most guys who seriously want performance. But there is so many customers that want "cool", it sets the stage for the manufacturing standard. I am o.k. with the cool factor, as long as it doesnt take away from the products fuctional performance. I just prefer to add the "cool" factor AFTER the rifle performs to its best ability. Then we would know if the option takes away or contributes to the peformance.
There is no perfect answer to accuracy, just a bunch of us guys exchanging opionions, and thoughts, hoping to achive accuracy NIRVANA! LOL!
Straight shootin and have some fun!

Maybe I'm lucky but it has repeatedly produced 1" 5 shot group at 200 yards using factory Hornady 95gr SST ammo. The muzzle break really works well and I can self-spot through a 24x scope easily.
Is it a gimmick? For sure, but it looks and works great for me!

There is no doubt that these rifles will work, but the chances of having problems with such an unorthidox barrel shape/manufacturing processes is astronomicaly more likely. I personally like the looks of the rifle, but wouldnt feel comfortable risking my money to purchase one for a serious long range precision task. Not that they are incapable of this task, but are far too likely to have a manufactuing induced problems. We have enough to deal with in the fickle weather and atomsphere, than to worry about the firearm.I have owned remingtons all my life, and likely always will. I like them, always have, period.
I enjoy many others as well.
I am no physicist, but I do know that when it comes to barrel shape and configuration, There is no more stable or strong shape in the natural world than a circle. Self supporting in its entirety. It stands to reason that it would take tremendous technology to out perform this shape/configuration.
Tell me what you think, I am always up to considering new views. I is the way I learn.
I think we as shooters always want to push the envelope of technology, and attainable accuracy at more and more distant targets. Thats why it is so fun to reach new levels of proficientcy! We have to realise that once we reach our shooting potential as humans in a physical world, we will grasp at almost anything to achieve "percieved" improvement.
The average high end rifle designs, I believe are far more capable than allot of us shooters are.(in perfect conditions) If we had perfect shooting conditions available to us full time, we would have results that would border unbelievable. Its the conditions that we have to learn to read and adjust for that makes it impossible to perfect.
THAT is what I live for! To dance with the conditions/variables and come out on top.....occasionaly. Good enough for me! Its all fun!

Need another gimmick, gotta sell more guns you know. Reminds me of what a Winchester rep said a few years back when asked about all the new rifles and calibers they were bringing out. Something to the tune of "we're gauranteed to sell about 14,000 rifles every time we bring out a new model or caliber".
As for the VTR's, I had a 308 brand new, mail ordered from off the forum here. Took one look at the machining on the crown and back it went, wound up with a SPS 20" tactical instead, which had even more issues, but that's another story........
Long story short, as a general purpose shooter, it would probably work ok, but as Rick and others have commented, there are shortcommings in the basic design. What you are prepared to live with is entirely up to you. But the laws of physics are what they are, can not be ignored or bypassed.
