For the folks that have one, what do you think? Better, worse, same? Happy with em?

How's the matte finish holding up so far?

I don’t have one but did give a couple of new production ones a serious look over recently at my LGS as a possible donor for a build.

The matte finish seemed to be roughly the same thickness/density/resistant as my 700 SPS Varmint turned 700P. Yet that’s obviously subject to end user abuse or lack there-of.

The action still had that same sticky/sandpaper feel through it’s cycle to it, but it’s easily fixable through a reputable Smith or enough rounds through it over time. Stock is… meh, but what entry level stocks aren’t these days? I’m sure most people would eventually swap it out anyways to something else or do the BDL conversion.

For what it’s worth there was two of those new prod ADLs there and I looked at both to rule out any possible QC variances.

Not much of a field/bench perspective I know, but at least it’s a hands-on one. For a no frills rifle it would be there with the Axis 2’s or Vanguard S II’s as an option price wise ($950’ish). Maybe a bit ahead given the 700’s huge aftermarket following.

Thats exactly what I am thinking right now.

Wouldn't mind giving one a run. I bought the 6.5CM Vanguard SII I was asking about in the previous thread and its a really nice rifle. The Remingtons are slimmer and carry better though eh?

Still, I remember that gritty feeling that you mention lol. And their trigger. But send enough bullets through it getting ready for next season, and as you say, bet it improves quite a bit.

Feeling if you don't wanna change anything, the Vanguard may be better. Except for handiness.

Tempted.

It definitely depends on where you’d want to go with whichever platform you choose over the long haul for sure. Certainly no denying the aftermarket aspect of the Rem as the more potential worthy.
