Do you hear a click? Does the hammer strike at all?
What happens when you pull the trigger? Does it pull all the way? Does it seize up as if the safety were on? More details are needed.
If you are able to pull the trigger and you do indeed hear a click, check the round that was in the chamber. Does it show signs of being struck?

did u clean it after u bought it, u can remove the trigger assambly and check the opperation( keep some pressure on the hammerwith your other hand when u pu ll the trigger) remove your bolt and inspect your fireing pin, when u reinstall the oprod set screws, finger tight only to tight and the rods bend and the bolt dosent travel. good luck

Yeah that's odd +1 on taking it back to the store.
Yeah I was kind of hoping that it was some common mistake that new owners make. I took it apart and had a look at the trigger group, something is just not moving properly in there. I don't know the name of the part but one of the pieces next to the hammer appears to be bent. Called the guy I got it from and it should be going back tomorrow.

Is one with the built in trigger lock , You need the Remington tool to unlock it . Look at the safety button if one has holes in it it is the locking type
I had a similar thing happen to my 597 after less than 50 shots from new. There is a pin pressed into a little arm shown at the end of the red arrow. The arm is a press fit onto the pin and I guess it was not installed properly at the factory. The pin was still laying in the bottom of the trigger group when I took it out of the rifle. I took the trigger group apart and used a vise to press the pim back into the hole in the arm and it has worked great since. If you have the option to exchange it that would probably be best but at least this pic will show you what the trigger group should look like.
As noted in John's post, I had a similar issue that prevented the trigger from resetting. In my instance the round pin noted by the green arrow had come loose and fallen off. After pressed back on, it continued to fall off with regular usage. I since returned the firearm.
This seems to be my problem too. The pin at the end of the green arrow seems crooked? It isn't rubbing on anything but it doesn't look right. The guy I brought it from is going to take it back to his distributor and said if it is something that is going to be sent in for warranty work he would buy me a new one and then keep this one when it comes back from the shop.
