New Remington 700's

As if anyone doesn't want to hear from Hungry lol.

Wouldn't want to see any of the non one-piece bolts subjected to that...although Bergara says their bolts often break before the handle weld fails in testing lol.

With Dan's mishap, given a wrong powder/big overpressure situation, I'm actually kinda impressed the bolt handle falling off was all that was wrong. Not, yknow, a catastrophic or something on the front of the bolt like an extractor/ejector and its housing cracked or blown off making the bolt a paperweight anyway.

Not making excuses for a bolt handle falling off, more like just saying if I was told to bet on whether or not my bolt is scrapped after that with any gun, I wouldn't put much money on the table. Or my face behind it haha.

I had to replace the extractor as well. I figure I still got away lucky. - dan

Hey the piece of the bolt that holds it wasn't blown off. How bout if it was a Sako or M-16 style...

I've seen two bolt handles come off a 700, both were smashed off to open the bolt

From what I've seen over the decades, that is the usual failure mode when it does happen. I did see a 788 bolt handle that came off while cycling the bolt, and upon examination there was just one tiny spot of solder on it. Bad QC that day I guess. - dan

Wouldn't wanna try it with the TIKKA setup either TBH. But then I really hope "beat the bolt open with a block of wood" isn't on my dance card any time soon either.

It happens, especially if your a high volume reloader.
Sometimes a man gotta do what a man’s gotta do .. lol

LOL Ain't saying I never pulled a goof while reloading! Just haven't had to do that one yet!

Lookin at the dovetail on the bolt that holds the handle into the Tikka...yeah. I don't think I'd lay big money on that surviving the Buford Pusser bolt opening either.

Reloading errors are not the only cause of a stuck bolt, all I’m saying is that a bolt handle should be capable of taking a quick solid smack without falling off.

I think rems had an issue with their handles , back in the day.
Maybe they changed the way they attached them?

Anyway a stuck bolt is a good way to mess up a long anticipated range or hunt day.
Some stones ya just gotta walk tall and give it a good wick smack. Lol

Anyone purchase a new Remington 700? What are your thoughts? Any issues with the rifle? Any feedback is appreciated.

Also Ill add... anyone seen any one sale?

I doubt there’s a lot out there right yet as it’s only early in the release date.
The BDL looks awesome though

CDL rifles always looked sharp. I was just wondering if anyone had shot the new versions yet. I own SPS from 10 years ago. The finish is poor but shoots very well.

Only one problem ever with the M700 of the dozen I’ve owned.
It was a new out of the box BDL in 300 Win Mag bought in 1980.
I fired 2 rounds of factory 180 grain and both rounds locked the bolt up tight.
Yes I too did the 2x4 solution and the bolt handle withstood my stupidity.I returned the rifle and took another just like it that I carried for the next 30 years.
No issues with it or any other 700 that followed.
