New! Remington R15 VTR Semi

Pretty ridiculous.

Maybe these ARs can set a precedence. If they registered 25 as non-restricted between 2002 and 2005, then why can't my LMT be the same? It is a variant of the AR-15 and the law clearly states variants of the M16 are RESTRICTED but nothing about the rifle that came before the M16. It is poorly written and should be contested.

Make that number around 92 instead of 25. That includes all the Colt Sporters, HBARs, Targets and SP1s that are chambered for .223 or 5.56mm. They were missed on the initial search.

DOJ seemed to have an ass backwards way of defining both restricted and prohibited firearms under the Criminal Code. If you look at the way the way SOR/98-462 (16 September, 1998) was written, whoever drafted this tended to restrict or prohibit by first identifying a common name, and then restrict or prohibit all variants or modified versions of firearms from that family.

However, the way they word this using "and any variant or modified version of it" is confusing since it's unclear if they mean variations within the family of firearms, or the model that they've named. It's fine if the named firearm was the original model of the family, but problematic when it itself was a variant of some other firearm (as in this AR-15 case).

I'm sure this could be could be challenged, but even if litigation was successful, it is likely that the entire section of the Criminal Code would be rewritten, and we would all be in a worse than we are today. It takes years to draft things like this, and I would have no doubt that it would be done under a Liberal government.

It seems to me that someone in the RCMP thought that because this thing is camo coloured and geared towards the hunting crowd that it should be non-restricted. Stranger things have happened....

I just put my name down for a non-restricted R-15 22" barreled 223 @ Wholesale Sports in Kamloops...

They are expecting them in in early spring...

what are they asking?

Actually he told me but I can't remember exactly I was so excited that I could get a non-restricted rifle like this for predator hunting that it really didn't matter what it cost...

I'm thinking somewhere around $1125.00 though...

HeadDamage haven't a clue and don't care right now either as of now I have the potential to own a non-restricted AR-15 in Canada...

Just called my son whose going to college in Alberta we may have too buy one for each of us he can pick them up on his way home if they are in by the end of April...

Save on the taxes... :D

The fellow I was talking too @ Wholesale Sports told me that due to the R15 rifle being designed exclusively for hunting it is classed as non-restricted...

If you have any doubts call Wholesale Sports yourself instead of whining that it isn't going too happen...

If this is untrue then it will only be a couple more months for us to find out until then I have my name on a list to be called as soon as they are available...

Here is the link to Remington and the R15 rifles...

I can see the 18" barreled versions continuing to be restricted but WSS's is telling me that the 22" isn't...

The problem is that, in many cases, such fellows aren't expert...
Wholesale sports have nothing to do with the classification of firearms.
why would the 22'' R-15 non-restricted where some other AR, with even longer barrel are? Especially wen only the lower part is registered
This is a dream that most CGNer had for years, non-restricted AR platform
I will keep dreaming!

I don't think anyone doubts that WSS TOLD you it's non-restricted - we (I) just doubt that they know what they're talking about.

I can 100% guarantee that the net amount of knowledge of WSS concerning these issues is orders of magnitude less than is contained in the membership of this site.
