New Remington Rifle: Remington 783

This really makes no sense to me.Not that i'm against the rifle, but why introduce a rifle to compete against your affiliate company(marlin) and the very popular and accurate x7 series?

I can answer that one for you;

Because regardless of what you read on here, Reminton has a huge following and a household name, in bolt action rifles. Marlin not so much, so entry level buyers go out and want a Remington, not a Marlin. It's all about name branding and market share.

They should just dump the 770, and rebadge the xl7, maybe stick a dm in it. Would have saved time and money.

These are not gun freaks they just want a good reliable rifle to hunt with and don't want to buy some one elses worn out or bubba'd junk.

Right to the point. I have bought almost a dozen rifles but none is brand new. There are always moments I want to buy a new one, a brand new one.

BTW, I am only into CRF.

Looking at that photo of the 783 made me want to take a shower. Looks like Big Green is leading the race to the bottom.

Interestingly, the 788 receiver cost Remington more to produce than the 700. They saved money on the stock, furniture and finish.

This thread is a perfect example of what Gunnutz has become. Used to be a great place to come for advice and info. Now there is so much opinionated horsesh!t to wade through that it is easier to look elsewhere for good info. Dont get me wrong...there are a lot of awesome, helpful guys here with info to share, Then there are people like we see on this thread. I have nothing good or bad to say about this rifle, because like everyone else here, I have no experience with it at all. The biggest pile of garbage and junk I have saw released lately is all of the sh!tty opinions based on nothing.

If it turns out to be a decent rifle,i might buy one.I bought a Ruger American and while it's not the most expensive rifle i own,it's accuracy defies it's price.

Exactly what happened with my 100 ATR. "piece of crap", "exploding bolt", "floppy stock" they cried.
Turns out my own experience has been the exact opposite of the internet warnings.
I'm going to keep an open mind and wait to actually hold one. Maybe Big Green DID get it right?

This is pretty well on the mark!

w:h: Whoo-Hoo!

I'm going to have see what calibers it comes out in. I think I'm gonna get one - just cuz I can, and I like fugly! Some folks hate Savage, others Marlin and others Remington.

I luv them all! :dancingbanana: :HFU:

The point being missed is that these inexpensive rifles are quite often as accurate as rifles costing 3 or 4 times as much....as to people saying they will not survive long term usage as compared to more expensive rifles, will I've got a 30 year old 788 thats in every bit as good of shape as any of my run of the mill Remington 700 bdl's, winchesters, brownings or rugers. If you don't think they (cheap rifles) will take abuse you should review Jerry's (Mystic Precision) savage axis torture test. Try that with a one off full blown custom and let us all know the results.
The hunting and shooting sport needs rifles that have acceptable accuracy and reliability to be priced low enough, to attract new comers if we want this sport to survive....these rifles may not be of Mark V, Cooper, or Sako fit and finish but chances are they will still be hunting and taking game 50 years into the future and for 450 dollars, that sounds like a pretty good deal to me!
Happy hunting.

Couldn't have said it better myself, whole bunch of folks being critical about a rifle that isn't even on the shelf yet. If you guys were in Remingtons boots and all your american competition were making very inexpensive rifles that are being bought up left right and center, don't you think you'd want to try and compete in this market place? Other than the plastic trigger guard, how is this any cheaper to manufacture than a 700 that they have been making for 50 years?

They could have just put a barrel nut on the sps and lowered it by $75 and been in the same ballpark.

Prefit factory barrels headspaced with a barrel nut.............barrels and nuts can be mass produced and then headspaced by hand in a couple minutes versus someone having to cut the shoulder on each barrel and headspace each action......

If it goes bang every time and puts store bought ammo within a couple inches of where it's supposed to go, it'll sell. Not all hunters are gun people, just like not all drivers are car people. I'll never own one, just like I'll never own a Corolla. And for the same reasons.

Another piece of garbage to replace two other failures ?;) Gotta agree we need more medium priced quality rifles not crap that's going to disillusion newbies.

Grizz
