New rifle needed...any suggestions??

I am looking for a new rifle....something light, compact, and at a good deal....any suggestions?
Thinking Ruger Compact...anybody have 1?

Rugers make good rifles, so I think the Compact woudl be fine. Light and handy...

never owned one, but no reason why it wouldn't be a good choice!

as would a remington Mod 7 or Model 700 mountain

probably my only considerations in that catagory

I had a Ruger Compact in 7mm-08. Great little rifle, the short barrel will greatly reduce velocity, thus range. A consideration, but if you plan on shooting short range...good choice.

i just got my third Ruger Frontier, which is basically a Compact with a barrel rib for a scout mount.
i couldnt recommend a rifle more - great action, excellent handling and accuracy because of the shorter/stiffer barrel. Ruger makes the best <$1000 bolt-action on the market now IMO.

i picked the latest one up from P&D Enterprise, for $825, in Ruger's 'Target Grey' finish. great guys to deal with. the Frontier doesnt cost much more than the Compact, gives you an extra scope mounting option and even a picatinny rail, and if you arent using the forward rib you can even remove it and turn it into a Compact.
