So I went out this morning and picked out a new rifle. Wanted a .300 Win Mag in a bolt action. Looked at Ruger Hawkeye, Remington, Weatherby, TC Icon, Tikka. Decided on the Ruger, just because I've hunted for years with a 25 year old M77 30.06 and like the action alot. And the new trigger is definitely an improvement. So I ordered the All Weather black/matte finish stainless barrel.

For scope, was looking at Leupolds, Zeiss Conquest, and Bushnells. Took them all outside and looked around, and ended up picking a Bushnell Elite 6500 2.5-16x42, despite Bushnell was probably ranked lowest in my mind before I looked through each of them, just based on pre-conceived opinions on the brand and past experience with cheap Bushnells. Liked that it had the 30mm tube, so might be a little brighter, in theory anyway. Really liked the reticle on it as well, compared to the others. Also liked that it went all the way down to 2.5 power, which will be nice for moose hunting in the bush, up to 16x for the long shots we usually have on the open prairie or on the sides of valleys. It was about $100 more for the Bushnell, but the guy at the store was pretty sure it would be better in low light conditions because of the larger tube. This is important because I've been hunting with a Schmidt & Bender of my old man's forever and got used to it's amazing light transmission. I know the Bushnell will be nowhere near that, but I didn't want to fork out $2500 for an S&B either.

Based on my experience with the Ruger, I'm not second guessing that one bit, but what has been everyone's experience with the Bushnell Elite 6500?

Thanks

They are so new on the market that not many people have hunted with them yet,but at first glance they seem like a great scope. Their 4200 was a definite winner and I can't see why the 6500 won't be as well. From the limited amount I've used them, I was impressed. Like you say, there is a stigma about that name and spending that kind of money though......
