New Rifle Selection Help!!!

Hey guys!!
My dad is looking at buying a new rifle for this upcoming season. He really likes the Browning BLR in 300WSM but our neighbor has been telling him that it's not an accurate rifle. My dad is now torn between the BLR or a 300WSM Open sight bolt alternative.

Anyone have suggestions about a good bolt with open sights or opinions on the BLR?? Both would be greatly appreciated

I had a BLR with open sights and scope. It was ok for accuracy (about 1.5") with the scope. All of my bolt guns are tighter.

If it is for hunting, 1.5" is more than enough and he will enjoy. The only thing is extra mags. I had to buy three extra to find one that could RELIABLY chamber the third and fourth shot (operating lever a little quickly). The other two were NFG and were dimensionally different. Other than that...it was a great rifle. Gave mine to my son for a BAR in 30-06.
 
The BLR are ordinary for accuracy but they are reliable rifle my own BLR is a 1.5- 2 inch with good handload now for the same kind of money go and feel a TC Icon, those rifle are .5 out of the box with cheap ammo... JP.
 
Depends what kind of conditions he hunts in. I sold the 2 BLR's I owned, because they didn't like snow (leverguns aren't real pretty during snowstorms, lots of places for ice to accumulate in the action. Especially a Winchester. I had a couple of "click-no bang" episodes with my BLR's , (and yes they were clean, not greasy, occasionally no lube at all, or a dry graphite powder, but we are talking -40c or worse up here.)

For nice fall weather shooting down in the provinces, I wouldn't have sold them I bet.

I only had one of the 2 rifles shooting 1.5-1.75". The other was a 2-2.5" at best. No matter what the loads. (factory, and my own reloads.)
Up here its bolt or nothing. Semi's and levers are poor operators in this type of environment.
 
My wife's BLR in 308 is quite accurate @11/4" consistently with hunting loads. It has proven very reliable , the only drawback is the trigger is a bit heavy and very difficult to adjust.
 
Shooting a WSM with open sights is kind of a waste of the extended practical range that a magnum offers IMO. Might as well go for a 308 Win if he wants to go the open sights route.The 308Win will do anything the WSM will do at open sight shooting ranges.
 
My scoped BLR is my main hunting rifle. It is very handy (short, light and quick target acquisition), easy to carry and shoots as well as I can aim. The pattern does tend to open up a bit after the third or fourth shot. I do not think 300 WSM is the best choice here, however, owing to heavy recoil in a light rifle. In .308, as Captonion pointed out, it would be perfect.
