New rifle suggestions.

Hi. In the market for a new rifle. It will be stainless synthetic. Leaning towards 300 wm or wsm. Will be used for bison, moose, caribou etc. Prefer removable magazine. Looking to spend about $1200 or less, give or take, without scope. Will be used in extreme temps.... So far Browning x bolt is in the lead. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I may be biased because I just did the same thing you're doing and picked the sako A7, personally I think it beats the x bolt in every possible catagory including price. 1300 with a scope, after tax.

Thanks...yup, have had an A7...it was ok. Not crazy about the magazine. Not the strongest spring. Eject was less than I would have liked. Recoil pad needed to be replaced. Doesn't have a flush magazine. Prefer tang safety. Extra magazines are very expensive. Soft touch was nice...about the same as x bolt, I'd say. I do hope you enjoy yours. Anyone compared the two?

The magazines are almost identical, maybe the spring is not as strong in the sako im not sure. Its the same eject that is used on hundreds of rifles and it worked perfect on the one I tried. x bolt recoil pad sucks too, I prefer the 3 way saftey hehe and the magazines are like 10 bucks cheaper for the x bolt. Stock material is the same as the sako, its a thinner profile stock, if you have large hands it doesn't fit very well.

The mags for A7 are 90 and yours are 75-80, they are both plastic. Its obvious you didnt care for your A7, since you said you HAD one, if you dont want to hear anything but good reviews for the X bolt then why did you ask for the choice. Just go buy it.

Hello Brett,
if you want a removable magazine think that you ll need an extra one.
dont loose it while in our mountains.

stainless wont guarantee you no rust.

the system for the magazine on the xbolt is not that bad but will it last on longer distance?

for that kind of price did you handle a tikka T3?

all the best.

Phil

So you bought your A7 from cabelas? That's part of the problem if true, their rifles are made to different standards, custom ordered if you will, from beretta.

The mag on the tikka is identicle to the mag on the A7 except it does NOT have the metal guides. And yet you seem willing to go for that option.
The A7 mag is basically the same as the X bolt mag as well ( i never spent a ton of time examining the x bolt mag) perhaps the springs are heavier.. Almost the same price
The stocks are the same material on the X and the A7, only difference is shape as mentioned before.
Sako barrel > Browning barrel
Sako trigger > browning trigger
Sako saftey < Browning saftey (in your opinion) I could care less my safety will rarely ever be touched.
Sako 75 Action > Browning

And all for the same price.

mag $85 from beretta

mag $75 from browning

If you're going to base #### off blind dislike for a product then dont ask for recommendations. As I said before you clearly want the X bolt, so just go buy it.

lol my rudeness, im trying to point out facts and you ignore them. I could care less what you buy, if you actually did your own research like I did you would find out that a lot of what you are saying is false. Just to point out 1 difference from cabelas to non, the barrel is NOT free floated, it has 2 pressure points.

Good luck to you in what ever it is you buy. You got rid of a better gun than you'l be buying, but you will find that out soon.

hey man Ive got this gun, but I dont like it. I know, Ill sell it and buy a ####tier one..

call me a wingnut, I call you stupid.

Have a nice day.

The magazines aren't even similar. The A7 one is a glorified Tikka one...not rotary, and not nearly as solid feeling. X bolt mags sell for $60, A7 $120. While the eject cleard the case from mine, it just barely plopped out...Everyone raves about the Inflex pad being very effective... while it's common knowledge the A7 is hard as a rock and a good idea to upgrade. No plastic on browning trigger guard, bolt shroud either...anyhow, if you find the mags are the same and recoil pads similar, not sure you're comparing an x bolt with an A7. Happy hunting.

Sounds like you've already made your decision...;)

If you like the T3 but not the slippery stick you could have it coated in a dura touch type rubberized coating. Really helped on my custom built T3 or swap it for a bell and Carlson.

Not sure I should step in here.........but my choice would be a Remington 700 BDM over either one of them others. I however hate detachable magazines...........like having an airplane with detachable fuel tanks........oooops....
Haven't seen an Xbolt up close but really don't care for the T3..........my choice would be a 700 Rem or new Mod 70 personally.............BUT I know, who cares what MY choice would be!!!!

I've had 700's in every form. No issues on the action, but I must say, the DM is crap on them. Even though it is all metal, I'd rather have the plastic of the xbolt or T3...
