$354 + tax at Le barons
So ...... between the Stevens at $354 and the 700 SPS Blued at $499, you have a difference of $145.

Most guys have indicated that the Stevens rifle needs a good pad, which at best will cost about $75 installed. The SPS comes with an R3 pad from the factory.

Now the difference between the two rifles is about $70 and you don't have the hassle of getting the new pad installed on the SPS.

I still maintain that the $70 extra for the SPS is money more well spent! :D

.

Or, you can get a pre-fit pad and install it yourself for about $40. And as long as we're going with incremental increases, you *could* spend another $145 over the SPS and get a Tikka or a different m700. Or for about the same price, you could get a Weatherby Vanguard. For yet another $145, and you're up to the $800 mark, so you could afford MOST factory rifles out there. Add ANOTHER $145 and now you're up to nearly a grand, and can start looking at some of the higher-end factory stuff. Beyond THAT you can start getting into some custom guns, and from there the sky's the limit.

Point being, you have to draw the line somewhere. And $499 IS significantly more than $329

I don't know about Big Green these days, I've seen more Rem 700's lately with out of wack chambers than any other rifle being currently produced. This has been observed with a bore scope and Remington seems to have some issues with getting the chamber reamer to run in line with the rifling.
This I do know is that the Remington products being produced in the last couple of years are definatly sub par to what preceeded this time.

If you are ordering the stevens 200 from wholesale sports or SIR, add on another $60 for shipping and handling. That 320 dollar shooting iron runs you at 380 after all taxes and S+H.

If your local sporting shop has guns, save yourself somecoin and buya stevens 200 there. I went to mine and had to order the 7mm08, so i am not exactly sure if I saved or not. My .22-250 was the first one I bought and I got it through SIR.

Oh and regarding the Thread I too was in the Market for a "Cheaper" rifle for a Yote project in 223 awhile back..........
I seriously looked at the Stevens 200 as well but ultimately chose the SPS 700...for a little more it's a Much better Platform IMO.

I got my Savage 111fcxp3 from SIR, $430 before tax and shipping, $480 total with shipping and GST. The "local" guys want more than that before tax. By the way, the local guy is going to charge you tax as well ;) .

The last rifle I ordered from SIR only had $15 S&H and was still cheaper than buying it here.
