Hi, i have been lurking here for a while and this is my first post.

I am looking at buying an entyr level rifle and am looking for a bolt action .22
such as a marlin 25 or a savage mkII. At the online sights there seem to be a lot of different versions of each one, and the differetn options can raise the price considerably
for instance
the MKII comes in BV, FSS, BVTS
I would prefer to keep the cosst down are any off the addons really worth the extra money.
I will just be plinking or shooting paper targets at the range.

I have the most basic Savage MKII...the F, accutrigger, blued with tapered barrel and synthetic stock.

It can shoot almost as well as my CZs at less than half the price.

Forgot to add: I got this rifle off the EE, shot about a brick or two, with a Bushnell 3-9 x 32AO scope and 2 x 10-rd mags about 2 yrs ago, $200 shipped in a hard plastic rifle case.

I picked up the savage FV in 22WMR , it has the heavy barrel .The stock was kinda flimsy so I upgraded to a Boyds Tacticool ...big improvement.
For the money they are a good rifle . Bushnell elite 3200 3x9x40

This pic shows it with the metal trigger guard installed

Sounds like you got a great deal easy rider. I have kind of given up on used as most of the guns i see are close to or higher then the entry level ones I have seen new.

I am not saying that people are asking too much for thier used guns, its just as a unknowledgeable new user i can't tell the difference between the different levels of the same gun. So i see someone selling a Marilin 917 for $400, and then i see a retailer like WSS have a sale for 250.

It sounds like you are happy with your purchase Easyrider, so I believe I may stick with the lowest model of a paticular gun, and hope i don't want to upgrade too soon.

Something good, not expensive, adjustable trigger and sights, as accurate as Savage and CZ and nice europeen quality... Zastava Z-5. Around 295$.
Here's mine toped with a Vortex Diamondback 2x7x35 rimfire. It's one of the rare, of many rifle i owned, that i promised myself to keep.

Yeah, it was a great deal. That's why the EE can be addicting. Buying on the EE requires good timing and good luck too. Lots of threads on EE tips. Actually you can't go wrong with the base model of any manufacturer...Savage, Marlin, Mossberg or CZ. If you can go up to around $400, a CGN dealer was recently advertising CZ452s in that price range.

IMO, if you don't want to upgrade soon, rather, there may be no need to upgrade soon if you buy a quality rifle like a CZ452. It's all the rifle you may need...well maybe with the addition of a $15 Yodave trigger kit. Succeeding purchases are just giving in to some carnal desire to play with other toys. I think in my case, it is possible to live with two .22 rifles and be content: a CZ452 bolt-action and a Marlin 60 semi-auto, or two CZ452s. That'll leave more money for ammo.

No problems ordering from the states at all ....both the stock from Boyds and the trigger guard and bottom plate I ordered from savage arrived in about 11 days ..
