I had a browning BL22, and it cycled shorts, longs or LR effortlessly and flawlessly. I bought it in mint condition (50 rounds fired) for 400. I sold it after 5 years and thousands of rounds for 400 dollars. (to fund the purchase of my 1965 Marlin .444 cal lever action......I had to!!) anyhow, it was an excellent shooter.
My current favorite is one I just bought recently, and let me tell you, My 1956ish Mossberg 146Ba long tube is great. It holds 29 shorts in mine. Thats a lot of time before reloading again. It is the most accurate rimfire I have ever owned and I got it in great condition for 175 I think. Great deals can be had on great condition used guns. You'll probably get more for your money going that route. I know I have.
