Little different than the average rolling block. Just a little bit shorter. :D

It's a Remington model 1871 Army rolling block pistol - caliber is 50 Remington Army/Navy centerfire (basically a short 50/70). It's an obvious refinish, but quite well done. Might be a good candidate to send away and have the action case colored. The grips do appear to be original, as one of the numbers on the grip frame matches the number in the inletting of the grips. You can still see the inspector's cartouche on the left side of the grip (it's CRS). Bore is in quite nice shape for a 120+ year old pistol. Hopefully sometime over the summer I'll be able to pick up dies and some brass and get her making noise again.

Hey that looks to be in Great shape.

I dont mind a gun thats refinished as long as its a good job.
Yours looks great.
getting the rolling block Action Colour cased would set the gun right off tho.
it would look ex.

Who or Where do ya ship stuff to get it Colour case hardened?
 
I've heard of a couple places in Canada that do it, but it's usually quite expensive. Being an antique makes it easier to send it south for work, so it increases the options. I know a few guys on the marlin boards that have used different smaller gunsmiths for case hardening and had excellent results - I'll have to check with them to get names. Probably not something I'm going to do short term, but sometime in the next year or 2 looks likely.
