Great Value was also my first purchase for the same reasons. The only upgrade i would suggest when your ready i the Apex AEK drop in kit. This will smooth out the trigger and reset.

My advice would be get 1000+ rounds through it before you start modding it.

I have put at least a thousand rounds through it and it has been awesome. It was an excellent purchase, however I will probably mod the trigger as my buddy's Glock is way better. The M&P seems gritty. Saying that I have yet to buy a trigger as ammo always seems like a better purchase.
