New - Ruger 10/22 Target 20" Stainless Heavy Barrel

Just to keep you all updated (I know you were dying to know... or not!)

I just purchased a Bushnell Engage 4-16 x 44 Deploy MOA scope

I picked it up at my local Sail 20% off for a final sale price of 440$. The side focus goes down to 10 yrds and the reticle is nice and fine.

I'll have to play around with the hashmarks and figure all that out. Most likely not even necessary.

The selection was slim since it was after the holidays, but this one was one of my original choices.

Only hiccup is the fact that they were out of 30mm rings and my other scope is mounted with 1" rings.

I have to post that one to EE and buy myself some new rings.

That’s what I have on my RAR

Where did you get rings for it?

I can't find anywhere local that has anything in 30mm in stock. I'm not sure of the height I need.

I'm hoping medium rings would fit. And also, I don't want to spend 100$ for a set of steel rings to put on a 10/22.

Rather spend the money on trigger parts.

So, as it turns out, finding 30mm rings was a lot more difficult than anticipate. Most likely due to the holiday shopping inventory shortage, but I had a hell of a time finding a reasonably priced set.

Of course that's because I didn't want to spend more than 30$ish.

Also, since I coudn't find any locally, determining the minimum scope height was also a chore.

After plenty of research, I came across a couple sites that helped me and may be useful to CGNers.

In the end Firearms Outlet Canada had a set of Vortex Hunter 30mm Rings in Medium for 29$ minus the Boxing Day 10% discount. Can't wait to get this scope mounted and zeroed. Twice this month. I'm getting good at this mounting and zeroing business.

Thanks guys.

I know what you mean, this really isn't a cheap hobby.

Grand Slam Weaver 30mm steel rings are $39.99 at Cabelas. I like the Weaver Grand Slam steel rings.

Cheers

Thanks Jay. I am aware of those and they were on my shortlist, but I wanted medium rings. The Grand Slam is only available in 30mm High rings.

I'm happy with the vortex hunters.

Unfortunately factory Rugers have crappy accuracy. There will be a few modifications in your future before you will be able to achieve tight groups.

One possible option to improve the trigger is the Kidd trigger kit. It’s cheaper than the complete trigger pack and still produces an awesome trigger pull. I have had one for >10k rounds without an issue. Trigger breaks consistently at 2.5lbs every time.

You also will likely require a different barrel before you get good accuracy. This is unfortunate having to buy a barrel for a new gun. The Ruger barrels are total garbage. I would recommend the Kidd Ultralight barrel. It’s awesome. Top notch accuracy and very lightweight. Best upgrade you can get period.

I will vouch for the $170 Kidd trigger kit, to fit the OEM trigger group. Very nice trigger, I couldn't quite stomach the price tag on the Kidd complete trigger groups but glad I went for the kit.

I have the 3-12 Engage with the locking turrets on my Dlask build, pretty decent scope for the money and although I haven't tested the tracking it won't really get dialed in its current use.

Hey Nikuser - I'd love to see some 50m groups with match ammo once your new scope is mounted and zeroed. I've been curious about the 10/22 Target as a build platform for plinking and target work but want to make sure the accuracy potential is there. Cheers!
