So I decided on a whim the other day that I needed another semi auto .22 and went into Cabela's in Edmonton to see what they had. Walked out with a new 10/22 basic wood stock cheapest one they had. I knew that I would be changing the stock and barrel anyway so why spend more on a fancier one.
Found a used Tactical Solutions barrel for $60. Then started looking for a stock. I was thinking of getting the Archangel Nomad for the G36 look but eventually found the Archangel Delux Target stock at Taccessories.com. Placed the order and 3 days later my new stock was waiting for me at the post office.

I'm really impressed with the stock. It's fully ambidexterous and feels quite solid without being heavy and the receiver fit perfectly without any modifications. The stock came with an extended mag release, a bolt buffer and a barrel tensioner that can be mounted in 3 positions in the forend and can be adjusted from freefloat to fairly strong up pressure.

I haven't really had time to get out to shoot it yet other than a couple subsonics in the yard. My acreage isn't big enough and the neighbours aren't far enough away to have much fun but I should be going out hunting and to play on Monday-Tuesday and will play with the tensioner to see how it affects accuracy after I sight it in and experiment with a few different typs of ammo.

I've been emailing with Eric from the shop and have been trying to convince him to become a site sponsor so he gets some more exposure. He has some nice stuff, ships quickly and the prices are competative.
I found his site while randomly wandering on google looking for 10/22 stocks.

I had it out in the bush the other day.
Definitely needs some trigger work or a pile of rounds down the barrel to wear it in.
Shooting using a treebranch as a rest I was easily hitting the same hole at around 25 paces and making about a 2-3 inch pattern when rapid firing the last 7-10 rounds of the mag which was where it stopped jamming. My hotlips mags were being a pain in the ass but my buddy that has been shooting his 10/22 for years tells me they just need to wear in a little and they will get better. Time will tell.
The stock is really comfy and for the price I don't think you can go wrong. I still need to get it to the range and shoot off some bags to see what kind of groups it can really do and I also need to do some playing around with the position and force applied by the barrel tensioner. I might be able to tune the barrel harmonic and tighten up the groups even more if I find the sweet spot.
So far I've only shot the Federal 325 round bulk box of 36gr JHP through it and it seems ok. I have a bunch of others to try as well to see if some group tighter or feed more reliably from the mags.

So far I'm pretty happy with my purchase and might be putting the 597VTR up for sale if this works out well.
 
Send your trigger group to Brimstone Gunsmithing... he does a great job on 10/22 triggers... he has done half a dozen for me. He will do the Tier 1 mod for $99 for Canadians... request the Canadian special... the Tier 2 is a good deal also, includes the bolt release mod and a full width RT trigger shoe in the color of your choice.
 
agreed the brimstone. cheaper than a custom setup(Timney, VQ, etc) by a good deal and as good or better feel wize.

How does the barell tensioner work? Is it a threaded part of the stock with a screw facing upwards or??

The stock has three positions in the forend that can be used for the tensioner which is a block with a V shaped plunger that pushes up on the bottom of the barrel. You use a 3/16" hex head to reach in from the underside of the forend to adjust the tension. It can be adjusted from freefloat to pushing up on the barrel quite a bit. I started out by putting it in the position closest to the muzzle and adjusting it to contact then another 1/4 turn.
I need some warmer weather and some time on the sandbags to play with it and see how much effect it has on group sizes in different positions and tensions.
 
i also have the same stock. had to shave down the mag release because it was rubbing on the bolt lock but other than that it really fits well, doesn't scratch easily. has a little compartment too which is neat.

also got it from taccessories, also found them great to deal with.

also have like 350 shots through it

also in edmonton this weekend for work. was thinking of going down to pheonix. I haven't installed the tensioner, don't know enough to mess with it at this point.

I installed the tensioner block because I've heard that because of the cast receiver they are known to develop barrel droop if the barrel is unsupported. I'm sure this would take thousands of rounds to happen at which time I would just buy another 10/22 and put it in this stock but I figure you should also be able to tune the barrel harmonic and tighten up the groups a little if you find the sweet spot. Problem is that the sweet spot will change every time you change ammo or pull the receiver out of the stock. I may try bedding the receiver into the stock to reduce this but it already makes pretty tight groups so it may not be worth the effort.
