New Ruger AR Announced

I just saw this on another forum ten minutes ago, went out back to print something (I'm at work) and was going to post it up here.

I'm surprised Ruger would do something like this. Looks pretty cool though, look forward to seeing how it performs down south.

why bother? can it be that different?

well to me it looks like a piston upper ?? ar at least adjustable gas block ??

looks frankly like a S&W knockoff... same sorta sampson type rail and the troy sights....

either way ruger is an industry leader in castings and forgings so it will be a quality product no doubt.

Piston driven upper and it's made by Ruger so the quality level will be very high. The only Ruger product that I don't think highly of is the Mini-14/30...

I thought Ruger was anti-black rifles. Didn't he get quoted a while back saying there was no need to ever have a magazine with more than 10 rounds or something like that?

Simple, they have ins with the police market for the AC556/mini14. Those platforms are losing ground now that paramilitary police forces are the norm. So the AR with piston fills those clients requirements.

Benedict...

Interesting to see it with a 30 rounder... seeing as Bill Sr. sent proposed legislation to 500+ members of the House and Senate in 1989 to limit mag cap to 15 rounds...

I don't fly Air Canada, and I won't own a Ruger...

I'm glad ruger's ideals were never fully carried over to the new CEO.

On another note it's good to see another major manufacturer making another AR!

Bill Ruger is dead. He also opposed hicap pistols and CCW. Look at the new product line now.

I realize he's dead, but it's still a Ruger... having said that I must admit I haven't taken a look at their gear in a long time... Still, at least where the AR platform is concerned, there are too many other high-grade options out there to get all sweaty with want for a Ruger... piston or no.

I am interested simply because it's a major manufacturer offering a piston-driven AR. My impression of piston ARs generally is that they have not finished working out the bugs...so I'm curious to see how well this one runs.

Most of the guys I know in the US who run piston ARs had to screw around with it for a fair while before they were happy with them. To be fair they are mostly guys who burn 20,000 rounds a year on their guns, and most users would probably never have a problem. Still...

Bill Ruger is rolling over in his grave right now.

Being a rotating bolt versus a piston on the old plutonian shore, is he? :)

On a side note, $5 says John Barness will write they should chamber it in .257 Roberts.

PS: I like the Bob, and JB, just he is blatantly doing the Jack O'Connor shtick a little too much, esp for Ruger and the .257.
