New Ruger AR Announced

I wonder how long until NEF, Savage, Winchester, Weatherby and Sham Wow 're invent' the wheel and jump on the M4 bandwagon, Its getting to be as 'original' as marketing a 1969 Camaro with Chrysler emblems........:D

PS: I like the Bob, and JB, just he is blatantly doing the Jack O'Connor shtick a little too much, esp for Ruger and the .257.

How much JB do you actually read? He likes what he likes. He's written about the Bob since he was at Gray's. And not exactly picking the latest, greatest cartridge or rifle (he often talks about his grandmother's rifle, a 722 or something of the like) to write about.

How many articles has he written abotu Ruger, lately?

I digress, the AR should perform quite nicely.

I would so buy a Sham Wow AR from Vince.

They lost me at 1:9 twist barrels...should give some other manufacturers a run for their money, at least States side.

Interesting - I won't mind trying one.

1/7 will be much more interesting but I dont think it is a deal breaker. The design appears to be sounds.

I may go for one if someone bring it in.

I thought Ruger was anti-black rifles. Didn't he get quoted a while back saying there was no need to ever have a magazine with more than 10 rounds or something like that?

Bill Ruger has been quite dead for some time, the company now realizes that it has to get into a market where it can make a profit instead of catering to the fudds.

I was at the Ruger Cup in RI two weeks ago. Ther was a lot of talk of the lost market share. They are down to 9% shotgun sales and have orders for the next two years on pistols and rifles. They cannot keep up with magazine production and have outsourced even into Italy for the 30 rounders.

Here is something about the reasoning about the WHY:

Just scrol down!

I hope it works out for them. In theory, the expertise they gain designing and building a competitive AR, should spill over into the other products.

Rugers heritage is to take something good, design in some improvements, and keep the price within reach. Time will tell how successful this first stab is. They should know by now what people want. Accuracy, reliability, quality, cachet.

It will be perfect if they make a mid-contour version in1/7 twist. 1/9 twist Heavy barrel is oxymoron - if there is a need for heavy barrel, there is need to shoot 75-77gr bullets.

The arhitecutre of the rifle appears to be sound. I predict they will change the gas block design later on - that piece of steel holding on to the gas regulator looks like a Robarm style solution. The gas regular should be held to the setting by a heavily spring loaded ball detent.

THe bolt group doesn't need to be chromelined seriously. It is more of a marketing bling bling.

Very wise for them just to use Troy and Magpul accessories. Make the stuff they are good at (CHF barrel) and leave the rail, sights and magazines to those who are good at them. I am mostly excited by the CHF barrel......

The Chinese made stock is a downer. they could easily raise the price by 20 bucks and give everyone a Magpul OEM version of CTR.

If they can hit the street at at around 1700 - it will be a winner.

Looks very nice. Also another nice thing, there is at least 2 Canadian importer/distributors which means our friend we love to hate, R Nicholls Distributors does not have a monopoly on the product. Now, does anyone have experience dealing with Inland/Pacific Distributors, Ltd, if so how is there service? RE: http://www.ruger-firearms.com/Firearms/PS-InternationalCustomers.jsp?Country=Canada

I think just maybe this may be my next AR Purchase. :)

My thoughts.

- Didn't know Ruger was into forgings. Castings yes, never heard of the forgings though
- Hopefully they didn't use castings here.
- This has been in the works for 2 years +. Apparently they didn't want to release it until they got it right in their minds. Good on them for that.
- Troy Ind is a major factor here. Rail, sights, rail covers etc. Can't go wrong here.
- Hammer Forged barrel, YES!, 1/9 - would rather have 1/7, but I am guessing that the next to go will be 223 barrels with 1/7 twists from the USDOS because armies use 1/7 ()*()
- Bill is dead. They are having to get back some market share.
- Mini is a nice NR gun. Nobody using it in LE market though (for the most part).
- Chrome is the way to go. Not a gimmic GT. The ONLY reason I say this is the time on cleaning. THAT's it! doesn't help anywhere else. Piston with chrome means that much less time cleaning.
- who cares if there is another MFGR of AR's. Not like the US market doesn't support it. There should be more of them. YES MORE OF THEM ARE NEEDED UP HERE.
