New Ruger AR Announced

If they can hit the street at at around 1700 - it will be a winner.
If someone can bring these in for $1700 I will take a long hard look at them. It would certainly be a better value proposition than the M&P15 at the same price. But with US$2000 MSRP and the current buying frenzy in the US I just don't see it happening.

Pricing is par or cheaper than most factory piston guns. Still too expensive IMNSHO. Pricing is artifically high. No it isn't new....but the Yanks have a love for their AR's like the Russians love their AK's.

Wes, thanks for the forging info....wasn't aware of that tidbit on the LCR. Regardless, Forged is better than Cast any day of the week.

I think too many are bent on the fact that there are many AR manufacturers with more jumping on the bandwagon every week. It creates competition...stop complaining. I bet you, we will still pay a "Premium" to have this "new" gun up here. The more options up here the better. Now if they will make a Canuck friendly version for the US DOS.

The Troy sights and handguard will be close 600 USD in retail.

If the street price ends up to be 1700 ( dealers always sell lower than MSRP, at least in the US) - then 1100 for the rifle is a steal with 3 mags and a softcase.

Of course, it is a first gen product - so you know something will probably go wrong. Mabye by SHOTSHOW they will have a more practical barrel configuration and an improved gas block design. I dont' like that little piece of sheet steel that hooks on the gas regulator notch.

I don't think they will make a SR-223 version just for us. We will never see it.

And this just shows how much profit there is in these AR's. That is why everyone makes one or will be making one.

Another issue that I see with the Ruger, the op rod appears to be captive between the gas block and the receiver, and could not be removed for maintenance. Not sure it is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Good for ruger. They have a massive distribution network and have been retailer favorites for years. They make a solid product and back it up (SR5 recall comes to mind). The gun rags will be all over this.

It will be a sales winner, no question.

I'm waiting for their 1911 and AK:dancingbanana::D

Do you guys seriously believe this will come in at even close to $1700 here? Pass me whatever you're smoking! Why would you even expect a piston AR from a reputable gun manufacturer to be $1700?

You're not touching it for under $2500, that's my guess.

oh..oh..oh..

I got one.

Will this SR556 be non-restricted?.....

I guess the best pricing will be whatever WholesaleSports sells them for :D
I'd like one... cost will be a factor.

I'll be watching.

I'd raise your offer to 3K, the heavy barrelled Sabres coming in are already at the $2600 mark.

Piston driven AR by Ruger, you won't see one in Canada for under 3K, not in this market, not in 10 years.

the only thing they would have to change would be to put an a2 style stock on it and MAYBE swap out the flash hider for a compensator.

it does not have a bayonet lug or any other evil features.

With the name SR 556, I would guess it is stamped 5.56 caliber.
Would that not prevent it from being exported?

I really like this move on Ruger, not that I am all crazy about another AR15, but having more of these EBRs in fudd hands is better than any political fight there is. Ruger should easily win hearts of the average mom and pop consumer who are loyal to their name. Time will tell if this will be as popular as the mini14s and 10/22s.
