I just picked up a New Ruger Blackhawk this afternoon here in Edmonton and the loading gate will not fully open. It did work fine before anf after I removed the protective cover from the cylinder which required me to open the loading gate.

Any ideas or anyone else have this issue?

I will be taking it back to the dealer in the AM.

Yes I was able to get the protective plastic cover off and reinstalled the cynlinder. It was working fine. Now the gate only goes 1\4 open and that is it.. I know it's confusing.

It sounds as if something has changed since you first got the gun and then removed the cylinder to remove the plastic protector. Try removing the cylinder again and reassembling. Perhaps the cylinder base pin is not fully in place.

I have tried to remove the cylinder again but with the gate not fully opening I can't get it out. I have tried gently pulling the hammer back slightly, wiggling the cylinder and turning it with the hammer slighty back. It did pop free once and worked a couple times and then it started jamming again.

Thanks for the reply

it is likely the Gate Detent Spring...it is bent or not seated correctly..had the same problem once with a single six.

So far this morning it's opened twice and then goes back to being stuck. Thanks for your replies, I am off to P&D to see what they will do about.

Hi Guys, I am back from P&D and as fate would have it when Chris tried the gun several times in a row it worked perfectly. Then out of the blue it started jamming again. Thank God cause I thought it was me.

I left the gun with Chris and he is going to call the Distributor on Monday to have him come down and have a look at it. So something is a miss with it.

Crap. I just bought one of these from Epps. Mine works but I'm really interested to hear what they find wrong with yours.

Please keep us updated. Thanks.

Well it took alittle longer that I expected but well worth the wait. Chris from P&D replaced the gun today, was able to get it thru the Alberta Firearms folks and I brought it home tonight.

The Ruger Distributor thought it was just too tight and it slipped thru the cracks.

I must say the folks at P&D do have excellent customer service and I will certainly go back again. Many Thanks Chris!!

Merry Christmas Everyone!!
