If a person wants a front sight on the barrel they will have to do it themselves or get someone else to install one.... the trend is away from iron sights on most rifles these days with a few acceptations.
If your worried about an optic falling catastrophically, you could carry a modern micro red dot in your pack with a battery life of 20,000 hours and a weight penalty of around an ounce.
