New Ruger Mark III

I guess I could do a little range report on the Ruger 22/45 4.5" squared bull barrel that I bought last week, as well.

First let me say that shooting .22LR out of a handgun is so liberating. I love rapid fire and this gun has just enough recoil for you to actually still believe you are shooting a gun, yet an armature handgun shooter like myself can still blast away 3 round bursts and hit things with all the bullets. Plus it is sooo cheap. When shooting my 9mm I am always really conscious of how many bullets I am shooting ($$$). With the 22/45 I just am conscious of how sore my thumbs are from loading the magazines! I think I shot off close to 400 rounds on this range trip (my first time out with it).

Anyways, performance. I am not an accurate shooter yet and I did not use a bench rest so I won't comment much on my accuracy. I was hitting 8 inch plates at 10-15 yds without even trying, tho. Feeding was a bit sketchy with certain ammo at first. I had CCI blazers, CCI stingers, and Federal Cu-Plated HP's as well as Winchester bulk HP's both from Canadian Tire. Inside 50 rounds, the Federal's and Stingers both were having about 1 jam per mag, but towards the end of my shooting day nothing was jamming whatsoever. I was just unloading clips on tin cans and random stuff and it was working great. I could even shoot CCI CB Longs out of it by manually cycling the bolt, with no problem.

I'm super glad I bought this gun. It was $290 + tax at Wholesale Sports, Winnipeg. I got this particular Ruger model for aesthetic purposes as I prefer the look of the squared barrel and the 1911-inspired grip angle and also wanted the grip to be more similar to my CZ75.

I just noticed you're in Calgary. Where do you shoot? It looks outdoors...is it at the Steve Johnson Range? That's where I just started shooting.

I sometimes go to The Shooting Edge and get a day pass, but that picture was taken at the range in Lethbridge, which I am a member of. I used to live there and still have family / friends down there. It's a really nice facility, one of the nicer ranges in western Canada from what I hear. I spent a lot of time there when I was younger and I still enjoy going there.

Went to the range last night with 6 boxes of different ammo. Shot 2 boxes (100 rounds) and only had one FTF and no jams. Spent more time shooting my buddy's new M&P9. The FTF was a Remington Thunderbolt.
