My buddy got a new Ruger Mini 14 and ever since he got it, its been nothing but a problem with accuracy. He realizes this gun is a 2 - 3 moa rifle but hes getting at best 6moa out of it. The gun is new and original, nothing has been changed. He tried a Nikon scope on it and sent the scope back to Nikon because he thought the scope was messed up, then he tried a bushnell scope that he uses on his Brno 452 but he got the same outcome. Hes had myself and many others try the the gun and all of us got 6moa or worse. He even got a guy that reloads his own .223 to give it a try and he got 5moa and that was him trying his absolute best. Is there something really wrong with this gun? or are we just a bunch of clowns doing something wrong?

OP, have you tried different brands of ammo in it? I have a new Mini 14, but haven't fired it, yet! God I hope I don't find the same problem. Good luck, keep us posted.

Love what my brother used to say when i shooted my mini... Hey JP are you gone pattern your rifle, it became a running joke, hopefully the recent generation are more precise friendly a 2 MOA mini is a keeper.. JP.

Buy one with a full choke next time...

This.....
Owned 3 of them before I just gave up. This was 25 years ago and since then they have improved somewhat. My brother just bought a new one and it averaged 3moa. He loves it ! Keep trying. We found some ammo would not shoot well at all. Every gun seems to have its own preference for ammo. Good luck

Tighten everything up as others have said, get a selection of different ammo to see if that makes any difference, and shoot it from a vise to ensure it isn't a problem with the user not getting a good fit and not realising he is inconsistent in his position and hold. If it works well in a vise and not in your hands you know you have something worth figuring out and you can try adjusting the length of pull with recoil pads and the cheek weld with a Beartooth comb-raising kit.

I have 2 of the target models and both shoot moa easily with handloads. Both have the laminated stock. Hell on 'yotes. Must size brass with small base dies for reliable feeding, but other than that I love the things. Mark

My new one shoots good, guess I'm lucky. I'd try different ammo, have you talked to Ruger about this. With American eagle I'm shooting right around 2moa 5 shot groups. With my reloads I'm solid 1.5moa, often a smidge better. This is with a VXII 2-7.

The ammo we have tried with the gun is 55gr Hornady soft point .223, 55gr American Eagle AR-15 .223, and handloaded .223 unknown gr. With just iron sights, we were getting 3 shot 6moa on average with all 3 types of ammo. With the scope on, the 3 shot groups were consistant with there patters. Like a wedge shape. Two that were close to each other, then one way the hell off. Tried this over and over with the scope on the same setting yet it still pattered that exact same way even with two other people trying it. We did notice that the scope came loose almost right after the first few shots. I don't remember if the gun uses bases or if it has its own dovetail grooves. Anyways, we will follow every suggestions. Hes willing to give this gun one last try. If he can't figure it out, he wants to send it back to Ruger for a refund if they would even do that. Hes pretty fed up with the gun as it is now so i'm pretty sure he doesn't want to exchange it for another one.

My Vz 58 gets 3 - 4 10 shot moa so hes really embarresed with the mini 14s accuracy right now.
