check stock to action fitment, must be tight. check the fit where the gas block locks into the front of the stock, check the torque of gas block screws, must be evenly tightend to a specific torque, cant find the spec atm. check scope rings, mine would come loose where they clamp onto the action. make sure thouse fukerz are tight. found that the accuracy system bushings, as well as there adjustable gas block was not worth the money, or time to install and tinker with. The factory triger sucks, smoothing out that trigger will make a HUGE improvment. the 580 and up mini's can be good shooters.

My 582 seems to like the 55 fmj and I am getting very good results with winchester 64 gr bullets (power point). It is not an MOA rifle, so don't stress over trying to make it so.

Also, check to ensure that the stock is not causing undue stress at the gas block. I replaced the wood stock with a Butler Creek Pistol grip and noted that both the wood stock (from factory) and the new stock fit quite tight into the gas block collar. I did some trimming so the stock fit nicely without any force and the three shot stringing disappeared.

Just my observation.

I get 2.5-3 MOA from the factory sights. I haven't tried a scope yet. I did have to send my new rifle back to have the extractor replaced.

Is your trigger group drawing your barreled action down tight into it's stock? Do you need a screw driver to pry the trigger guard open to remove trigger group or can you pop it out easily with your finger? I've spoken to two gentleman with two new target versions that would drop the trigger group right out of the stock on firing. Instead of being the main screw like its meant to be, it just rattles around there loose and I can't see anything good for groups like this in an M-14 type rifle. I could see 3-4MOA with an Mini but 6 is big.

I think the reason they are unrestricted is the knowledge that you can't hit the broadside of a barn with them unless you shoot from inside the barn. The title of this thread should be the Ruger Adverstising Slogan for the gun. Seriously. they are junk. The sad part is a $400 Chinese M14 knock off firing surplus ammo shoots better out of the box than an American-made mini 14 with hand loads.

I asked once about buying one and everyone said don't bother as they are not a good rifle.
My son describes accuracy of most as "minute of milkjug".

The Mini-14 is no "Sniper's" rifle. I consistanly shoot 2.5"-3" groups at 100 yards. That is plenty accurate enough for a semi-auto bush-beater gun. Aside from that, the Mini-14 is a work horse. It will not jam and is extremely durable. Fun gun...

If I want tight groups, I leave the Mini at home and bring out one of my 6 bolt actions.

I shoot coyotes with mine. It does the job very well. I highly recomend the mini 14. Its not a target rifle. Inside 200 yards it does the job very well.
