New Ruger Mini 14 Accuracy Problems

I think the reason they are unrestricted is the knowledge that you can't hit the broadside of a barn with them unless you shoot from inside the barn. The title of this thread should be the Ruger Adverstising Slogan for the gun. Seriously. they are junk. The sad part is a $400 Chinese M14 knock off firing surplus ammo shoots better out of the box than an American-made mini 14 with hand loads.

Your statement is patently false and obviously written by someone whom has susceptibly chosen to follow what others have read rather than your actual experience with the rifle. If you have ever shot one, particularly a newer one, you would note that it will shoot approximately the same as an out of the box M305 - a reported 2" to 4" groupings at 100 yards. Some rifles (mine included) have a tendency to have a wandering zero as the barrel begins to warm. I found my wandering zero problem was easily remedied within minutes. A typical barn is about 40' x 20' and presents a very large target indeed. If your true experience has been that you could not hit that structure a 100 yards, I would suggest that you see a doctor or optometrist, because the rifle is clearly not at issue.

If your comments were meant to be in jest, then the opinions and observations you offered are worthless and are to disregarded as cyberspace noise. I own both a M305 and a mini 14. I have also previously owned the Target version of the rifle as well. Dare i ask, but do you actually own or previously owned these models? If not, then please refrain from any actual typing of words - as again, they are nothing more than useless drivel.

Funny -- I've owned one since the get go and have no problem shooting 2 inch groups at 100 yards with factory iron. Don't know how many 1000 rounds it has fired but it has never had a hiccup yet.
Shot many a coyote with it and every time I pull the trigger it goes bang.
What more can you ask for

It would be nice if OP's followed up on their threads so dialogue with the persons concerned could be continued, and we all find out the results.

Sorry, Its not my gun so I can't actually do anything with it. Since this thread, my friend has switched to Federal 62gr ammo $11 a box vs the Federal AR-15 55gr $8 a box and has adjusted the sights so the groups are center at 50 meters. He kept getting sick of the groups at 100 so he decided to sight it for 50 with out the scope. He got so sick of the scope rings, I had to stop him from throwing them in them in the garbage. In his words "its a gun that shouldn't even have the option to put a scope on it" Anyways, he use to get 3inch groups at 50 meters but since has improved it to 1 1/2" groups at 50 meters. He hasen't bothered trying it at 100 yet but he did hit a metal pig steel target 2 out of 3 times at 150 meters.

Well Dave, it seems like these rifles are just like women. There all different. Some are great and you have a long lasting relationship with it, others start off bad but you work things out and you begin to understand each other. Some star off bad but you stay together because you somewhat still love it but, you don't talk or see each other much since you're always off messing around with better more capable firearms. Then there are the ones that just nag all the time and people get fed up with it and leave it as fast as they got it.

My friend and I went shooting today and he tried his Mini 14 at 100 meters with 62gr ammo and he got just over 3" with iron sightes. He decided to try giving the scope another change and now he gets just over 2" groups with it. Amazing.

Sorry Dave,

This site has lots of real shooters... nobody here will believe you are getting sub 2 MOA with iron sights on any gun, let alone a Mini-14. You might try www.airsoft.com. Post your fantasy their, you may get some buy-in.

Thanks for coming out...

Any further updates from any of the guys trying to get better accuracy out of these rifles??

Please don't get me wrong, I really love my Mini-14. The cost of improving the accuracy of a Mini-14 to achieve 1 MOA would buy you a .5 MOA rifle to add to your collection. Mini-14's are plenty of fun just being a 2.5 MOA gun. A bit of trigger work maybe but I wouldn't dump a ton of money into a small improvement.

LOL. I read a post in the Milsurp Forum where a guy claimed to "put 4 outa 5 on a nickel at 145 Yards with Irons every time with an ARISAKA!" If only the human eye and Iron sights were so capable!

I bought a new model mini 14 and have shot a 1 3/4 group at 100m.This is after a 11 shot breakin, with cleaning after every shot.I am very happy with this gun!

Which may or may not help. The heavy barrel on that thing is a misnomer too. At least when I had mine, the barrel was only heavy from the gas block outward. The barrel dimensions from the chamber to the gas block were the same.

My little Ranch shoots well - not going to say it I can shoot a nickel at 100 yards with a telescope strapped to it, because that little rifle is not a precise shooter - not designed that way. Would not part with it either because next to my M14, that little bugger is 100% reliable as I have not had an issue yet with feeding or extracting.
