New Ruger No. 1 9.3x62 and .257 Roberts

Listed on the Ruger website, a 1-S in 9.3x62 and a 1-RSI in .257 Roberts, also a 1-A in .280 Rem.

Too bad they made the 9.3 with the "S" barrel contour.
They made the same mistake with the bolt gun.
I would much prefer it with the lighter barrel.

Oh well, they make certain contours and must not want to go that large with the bore on the standard barrel.
They did squeeze a .35 Whelen into a 1-A though. :) and I think the M77 had an "A" barrel too.

The RSI in .257 Roberts will be nice, a good fit.
So will the .280 be in the 1-A.
 
I've been debating on a mate for my No.1 RSI 7X57 in a second No.1... I'm liking the 9.3X74R to cover my big game applications... Its just time for a change-up to rekindle my interest... Playing with other toys right now, but soon.
 
If I was getting a #1 in a 9.3 I don't know why I wouldn't scrounge for a 9.3x74R. Just seems to make more sense to me. And the #1S and #1A both look to measure and weigh exactly the same so I wonder how much lighter the 9.3 would be in the A contour. Then I wonder if you'd really want it much lighter. My M98 9.3x62 is fairly lively and it's a half pound heavier. I'm not sure that most people would want to play with a 7lb 9.3x62 with full power loads.

the 9,3x74R was made for the european with double and single shot rifles in mind not bolt nor the ruger 1.

extraction was the issue with the 9,3x62 so the 74r came. the pressure too is supposed to be less ... but i ve seen a Custom double O/U Browning in 9,3x62 ...

whatever rock your boat, your sled or your electric light (sun will come later) in 9,3s is good anyway.

9,3x62 or the 366 Wagner is setting standard over here in Canada, a century of love around the world cant be stop by an R ...

I'm not sure that I understood that... but, the Ruger No.1 was made in 9.3X74R...
 
yes it was made but not needed.

the 9,3x62 is starting in NA market and so ruger is trying again to sell some.

the long case was needed for standard single or double breakdown rifles.the extractor of the ruger 1 of course make it differently and so 9,3 62 or 74r is not different for that rifle.
 
I like rimmed cartridges in single shots and doubles. I have a #1H in 458 WM but all told I would prefer it to be a 450 NE. Actually, I think that a 450 NE reamer will clean up a 458 WM chamber. All that would remain would be the extractor which should be easy enough to source from Ruger. Hmm...
 
New calibers for 2014 are great, however, they haven't produced any numbers of the 2013 ones yet. :(
We sell 400-500 #1's in a normal year, this year only about 100 as we can't sell what we can't get.
Also, check out the new suggested pricing.

I have a 7 lb 9.3x62 and it is pretty snappy, but throw the extra pound of a scope and rings on it, and it will settle down some.

My 1-S .375 Ruger is a hair under 9 lbs with a VX II 2-7 and a leather sling.
I don't currently have a 1-A, but have had two. They end just over 8 lbs scoped and slung, depending on the density of the wood, the scope and the sling, :) of course.

So you are right, there isn't a huge difference on paper, but in the hands there is.
If you handle the two side by side you will see what I mean.
A 1-S in 9.3 wouldn't be bad, but a 1-A would be better.

There is a bigger difference with the bolt guns.
The 9.3x62 African that I had was 9.5 lbs with a VX III 1.5-5 on board, same weight as the African .375.
I also have a .375 Alaskan which is shorter, lighter, (with a Ruger syn stock) and doesn't really kick all that much more, so off the 9.3 went.

Well, Ruger better get crackin on the # 1's.
Hopefully soon we will see the 24" 1-A .275 Rigby with New Zealand walnut. :)

I built my 9.3 to be irons only, despite the fact that the rifle came drilled for a G&H style side mount. The 7lb 11oz is curb weight...sling and a full belly. I've thought about scoping it a couple of times and really it wouldn't take much. Maybe I'll give it a whirl some day. Wouldn't take much work to do and I have a nice little 1.5-5x Leupold that could serve nicely.

eeeh gads!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1400.00 suggested retail plus tax and shipping. not trying to be a cheap sake because I have been trying to buy higher quality rifles but depending on the actual price once they hit our soil looks like its a used purchase for me. I do love that 257 Roberts though ...hmm wonder what one of my kidneys is worth
