New Ruger precision rifle.

My new Ruger Americacan Predator in 6.5 Creedmoor will shoot 1.5 inch 3 shot groups @ 600 yards with Hornady factory 140gr A-max ammo. I expect the Ruger Precision Rifle to shoot as well when I get my mitts on it.

I'm going to pick one up when they get here. What I see is a working man's Tubb 2000 for a fraction of the cost. I've been wanting to build a tube gun with an Eliseo chassis for a while and this is exactly what I was looking to build but with more features for the same price as the Eliseo chassis alone.

Hopefully we don't have to wait too long to see these north of the border.
Now I just have to decide whether I stick with 308 or finally make the plunge into the 6.5 world.

I would be hesitant as well, but seeing as ruger went to tactical/PR shooters and asked for ideas and actually used them, it has potential. The fact the frank from snipers hide wanted the pro type he shot and has been putting it through its paces and is giving it good reviews says something.

Ruger and accuracy haven't always gone hand in hand but neither did savage and accuracy and then they made a change and look at them now. I hope this is rugers moment because if this rifle shoots and holds together like the reviewers are saying, you could get a rifle and optics for 3k and have a really nice setup. Time will tell as more and more hit the market.

Frank says they'll be selling for around $1,100.00 USD . FX , tax and shipping , $1,600.00 here ? I was in a gun shop in Orlando when the RFB's were selling for $1,400.00 and the same gun was being sold here for $2,600.00 . Keltec had to put a longer barrel on the Canuk version but they sold a lot of them and I don't believe 2 more inches of barrel is $1,200.00 extra . If reviews are good i'll see what IRunGuns will bring them in for .

It will be at least $2,600 or more if the Loonie dips even lower

A fully loaded precision rifle that comes with an aluminum chassis, fully adjustable folding stock, sub-moa accuracy up to 1600 yards and costs about a quarter of what similar rifles from other manufacturers sell for? Time will tell but it sounds a little too good to be true. On paper, the Mini-14 seemed like a good idea too...

Perhaps we should be asking why every other "precision" factory rifle out there costs as much as they do.

You make a good point there. I mean a mcmillan stock (with DBM and bedding) is going to run close to the cost of this whole rifle. I dont think I would get one though until I see more reviews in user hands.

It does have some nice/interesting features and is in the popular chamberings.

Remember that Ruger first and foremost is a manufacturer that knows how to keep costs down. They may have gotten a little away form that in recent times, but don't forget that they pioneered things like investment casting techniques that allowed them to put out well-functioning but affordably priced guns for years. Not to mention that they actually make parts and frames for other firearms manufacturers (cast, forged and otherwise) as well as a plethora of other metal items for other companies such as golf clubs, etc.

Yes, their quality has recently taken a dip (and is hopefully recovering), but I like to think that if anyone can revolutionize the precision market, Ruger should be able to be that company. On a relayed side note, their newer American line seems to be punching way above their weight so hopefully that is an indication of things to come and a glimpse of the promise that this new precision rifle holds.

Because it costs money to build a quality product. When something sounds too good to be true, it usually is. And with Ruger's reputation, I'm not holding my breath that this will be one of the rare exceptions.

But just how much money does it cost? ... just because they tell you it costs $5000 doesnt mean it actually does.
AR10's and AR15's are sold cheaper than this ruger, with just as much machine work. So why is it so hard to believe that a bolt gun actually doesnt cost as much to make as we're told.
just food for thought - im not getting into conspiracy territory

anyways you guys will be pleased to know that they are coming into NZ at $2300 NZD and we pay $1600 for a Mini14 .. hopefully that will be able to give you an idea of what you'll see them at

I don't think anyone argues that a run of the mill bolt action rifle can't be made for less money than an AR-15. It's when you try to consistently make rifles that are capable of extreme precision that things get a lot more expensive. Quality control, attention detail and highly skilled workers will be the bulk of your costs.

I think with many companies there is also an element of brand whoring. You're paying for the prestige of the name.
I'd like to believe that Ruger is a bit self aware at this stage of the game and realize that people arent willing when it comes to their brand.

Who? The exchange rate alone makes it $1800. And then add in our Canadian "premium"......

They are selling in the US for around $1100, even with our current 1.29 - 1.3x exchange rate that is still only $1430 CAD. Toss in an extra hundred or two and you're still not far from the $1500 mark. Hopefully. ;)

Turners.com is listing these rifles at $999.98 US and sold out fast. So it's not too surprising that Wanstall's is saying they are expecting to be selling them in the $1500 CDN range.
