New Ruger Scout 358

I'm curious, the 358 Win is a great caliber, but I'm thinking going the same route, only re-boring and chambering to 350 RM for a little more umph! What's the consensus????

Good luck with that... you will have to modify the bolt head and magazine also... more work and money than it is worth.

Like hoytcanon says . I've done both and I'm building another 358 on a short action Savage . The 350RM is a great round , but after using both on game , I haven't seen a huge difference on game over the distances I shoot . Others may disagree , but I don't think I'm giving up much by going with the 358 , IMHO

This peaked my interest..... I am missing the .358 and the .260 from the .308 family....... A scout converted to a .358 and an m77 compact or ultralight in .243 converted to a .260 just might be the ticket..... Great thread OP....

I wanted 1/11 but Ron would only do a 1/12. I'm happy with that. I've heard that some 1/14 have a hard time with heavier bullets. I haven't shot it yet but I hope to next week! I don't plan on shooting 250's or 275's. I'll take my 338 if I want to shoot them

1:12 and 1:14 will shoot anything you want in .35 caliber. Remington twist theirs at 1:16 and they shoot up to 250gr without issues. 250gr and up can be iffy in the Remington's.

Thanks for the info. I have a friend who shoots 250's quite well in his 35 whelan. I think it has a 1/14 twist. It's an older Ruger 77. I may try some 250's but I hope the 225's group ok. I've bought 200 of them.

I'm not sure if you could even load anything heavy enough in the 358win that would require a 1/11 twist. A Marlin X7 I had in 35 Whelen was a 1/12 twist for use with the 310gr woodleigh bullet.

Oh, and nice Rifle!

Thanks ....... My former 7600 35Whelens with 1;16" twist would shoot 250gr Speers very well.
