New Ruger Scout Rifle Caliber

It's worthwhile to me just for the mags and a folding or at least collapsible stock option. I love my ranch but I just can't leave anything alone. If you are patient, I'm trying to be, MDT is planning an ESS for the American platform.

Just saw the end of a bit on GUNS & AMMO TV with Craig Boddington trying out the 450 BM Ruger American rifle. I can see the appeal of the rifle and cartridge, for sure. Looks like a handy package. I probably won't get one myself, but I kinda want one...I would go for the Scout in .308 more likely. But I can see the appeal!

Interesting to see Boddington shoot, too. He was using a red dot of some sort and while the range was pretty close, it was likely typical of the ranges that this rifle will be used at. Boddington shooting was something to see, too. Despite being a senior citizen and a lefty using a right hand rifle, he was making good, fast hits from offhand. He had to drop the butt slightly off his shoulder to work the bolt, but that can be excused due to left hand shooting, of course.

What a super handy looking rifle, though.

Ess would be nice if they made one without the forend so the front was like the lss and just had a grip.

Looks heavy though, so for hunting, not ideal making things heavier

What is the appeal for those of use that have not seen it? I cannot wrap my head around the why someone would want that in a bolt.

The rifle/cartridge combo is geared for hunters in states that require only straight wall cartridges in rifles to hunt with (or something like that) so they have been using 45/70 or 44 Mag lever guns or whatever. This gives you pointy bullets in a bolt action. That market probably exceeds all of Canada, so that's something to understand.

For us? A small bolt action with similar power to a traditional 45/70, but with pointy bullets. Fun. Cool. Something new and interesting. Possibly practical for some hunters, or just something different for hunters that are gun nuts.

Why not just get an LSS? And yes heavier, my ranch is very front heavy though so I would welcome the ballast, I personally feel balance more important than overall weight. It's a 16" barreled rifle though, it's not exactly going to be a tank with a chassis system.

You have a 450 ranch already?
