New ruger scout rifle

Nice rifle but that first scope and mount set up are defeating the purpose of the scout setup to begin with.

That scope looks huge as well.

Why not a fixed 4 power or a 1-4?

Would make for a lighter handier gun, although I guess that is the issue with the Ruger to start. It's pretty heavy for it's intended purpose no?

You can't drop a round in the chamber because the rifle uses the stupid modified mauser bolt,

I'm going to try those Alpha Industry double stack magazines

I can close the bolt with a cartridge in the chamber on any of my Ruger bolt guns including my GSR,

Have you found a source for the Alpha mags? I want some too.

Please just shush.

If you are still looking for a "lefty", they are in stock and on sale at Wolverine. http://www.wolverinesupplies.com/details/5792/Ruger-Gunsite-Scout-Left-hand-308-win.aspx

Just spoke to the gentleman at Wolverine Supplies and I've got one ordered! Elwood Epps have been jerking me around since January 6th, telling me the lefties aren't coming to Canada and all these excuses.. The rifle should be here mid to end of next week. Awesome!

No need to shush him, he makes a point although I don't agree with everything he's saying. First of all most people, me included, "over-scope" their guns. Too much power, 30mm tubes, 50mm bells..etc. I get the the concept as to why we do this but many realize it's too much. You probably don't need it all plus it adds to the weight and messes with the balance point of the gun and makes it more clumsy to carry. Like I said, I'm guilty of this. Eventually people realize what is truly required and we start buying smaller, lighter scopes. Now of course if you're just sitting at the range its not a big deal but bush hunting with a compact gun like the scout seems to cry out for small, light optics or the benefits of the rifle seems wasted.

Just my two cents..

I shushed him, as I'm going to shush you because at no point did I say I was trying to make a super light tiny end of the world jeff cooper scout rifle. Also that scope is pretty ####in small a 1-4x wouldn't be much smaller.

Aww, a touch sensitive about criticism?

Grow up. Nothing anyone said was overly critical, in fact it was helpful.

(BTW, you do own a scout rifle and the purpose of which is to be light weight and have good balance for multiple situations. Ruger dropped the ball on a number of those things.)

Doesn't this mag look better than that monstrosity you have hanging out the bottom of yours??
