:D Well my Ruger SP-101 .357 arrived yesterday and looked beautiful! I worked on it after dinner and put an 8 pound trigger return spring on the trigger to replace the factory 10 pound, and a 10 pound hammer spring to replace the 14 pound original. I also put 5 mil stainless shims on both sides of the hammer, and did a bit of polishing of mating surfaces with a rag and polishing paste. Lightly oiled everything, re-assembled with Hogue grip to replace the bit-too-small Ruger grip, and it feels like a different, more expensive, and tuned gun! The trigger pull and smoothness in double action is great now! Can't wait to shoot it this weekend at the range, and I'll let you folks know how that goes! Can't believe the difference in the gun with just a few mods and a bit of time! Why doesn't Ruger offer a version like this direct from the factory?

Click on the link beside where it says IMG to the right of your picture, it should auto copy if not highlight and copy.
Then paste that link with nothing else added into your post.

Okay that's the finished picture....thanks Can-Down!

You can see the difference between the too-small factory grip and the Hogue...the polishing, shims, lighter springs, and then cleaning and oiling with G96 made the action as smooth as silk. From what I hear it just gets better with use!

And this is the revolver apart and being worked on...after looking at the vids on triggershims.com and the Ruger manual it was a breeze.
Those are 5 mil stainless shims on the hammer...

That's what it looks like when you paste the address beside IMG without using the image icon here on CGN.
Either way when someone clicks on the picture it takes them to your account where they can look through your library unless you set it up for privacy.

Nice gun , enjoy the SP101!

I bought a used SP101 a few years back and it already had the hogues and a light trigger pull. Recently I picked up the .22lr and I don't mind the small grips but I also don't mind small grips in general like on a SAA revlover or a compact carry type gun.

The .22lr came with a brutally heavy trigger but it's lightened up with a bunch of dry firing and my trigger finger is also getting
stronger!

I might change the springs and do some more polishing and shimming but for now just dry firing it a lot has really helped.
For some reason I can hold it steadier then the much lighter .357 when dryfiring on a target double action.

Lol, I know what you mean Can-down, I tried the .22 version at the gun store and the DA trigger pull was unreal! I've read that the 11 lb. hammer spring on the .22 is the way to go...I've got the 10 lb. spring on my .357. When I get it to the range I'll find out if it'll shoot Hornady ammo reliably...some sources say if you go with the 10 lb. hammer spring the gun will only reliably fire Federal/American Eagle ammo with their softer primers.
Thanks for the heads-up on people clicking on my pics and going to my Photobucket...I shut that down now...

Went to the range today and put my single action shots into a 4" circle at 25 yards no problem, and my double action shots still hit the target...very impressed with the SP-101 with the mods I made. Another good thing was the 10 pound hammer spring that I replaced the factory 14 pounder with worked just fine with Hornady Critical Defense .357 ammo...so no need to source Federal hollow points for their softer primers. You could definitely feel a jolt from firing the .357s though, but nothing unmanageable with the Hogue grips. I love my new wheel gun! :)
