New S&W...M&P 9mm or 686 Revolver?

Hey guys,

I can't decide what I'm going to buy next...I have a CZ75 9mm and a .45 S&W 1911 and a Browning Buck Mark .22.
I'm itching for a new one and am looking at one of the above two...clearly they could not be more different but I like them both and, in all likeliness, will end up with both of them.
I've never owned a wheel gun before and I do want one but the M&P 9mm is really nice and since I'm planning on getting into ipsc shooting, it could be a good one to have.
Any help to decide?
 
This is just a silly thought but you COULD simply use the CZ for IPSC.

Have you shot a revolver at all? I know for myself the first time I did it was like the sky opened up over my head and a beam of sunlight shone down on me and celestial music started to play. But not everyone has that same reaction. A few actually dislike them. It would be a wise idea to see if it's sunlight and music for you or something that simply feels odd.
 
BCRider nailed it as per usual....shoot the CZ in IPSC, it will be a better gun to shoot anyways as it's got a bit more weight to assist in recoil recovery. by the 686 and enjoy, and when you have more money pick up a M&P.

Personally, i prefer to shoot the original M&P's, but the new ones are ok....:evil:

Yeah I could and will likely use the cz for ipsc. I've shot a revolver before but it was a while ago and was not really into or shooting much so I don't recall.
There is no doubt that a revolver must be part of my collection.
What do you guys think about the Ruger gp100? I sorta feel like a revolver has to be smith...especially my first. Am I wrong? The ruger is a bit cheaper and has good reviews.
 
I've owned a 586 for 28 yrs and I still love it. I've bought 4 1911's this year but the last gun I bought 2 weeks ago was a 4.2" 686 "Canadian" and I totally love it!! my vote is for the 686 . ........ And buy the 4.2 before any laws change.... That way you'll be grandfather'd in if it ever goes to 6" minimum
 
Im a dyed in the wool smith guy, but ruger has come leaps and bounds in the last 5 years. I do find the ruger blued finish is very easy to wear off. You will be happy with both, but the smith will hold more value.
 
Get a used S&W 686... the older ones are made better (according to what I've read) and are cheaper. I had a 686-3, enjoyed it immensely but decided to sell it as I wanted to purchase something else. Cool revolver, here it is in action...

Get the 4.2" ... You won't regret it. I shot 50 rounds full load through mine yesterday and it's a dream to shoot. No more kick than the 6". (Did I mention I have both!) I was also grouping nicely and managed 7 out of 15 shots in the 10 or bulls-eye at 25 meters 2nd time out with the gun.
 
If you Want to shoot IPSC there is a good chance you will have to shoot in STD and not PROD!. A lot of the m&p's out there will not make the 5lbs trigger pull test after a 1000 rounds. That happen to me and got bumped to open. So if you want to shoot PROD get something else. If you really want to shoot the M&P get the 40 and that way if you are in STD you can at least make Major!

Don't learn the hard way like me!!!! P.S I still love my M&P and my M&P Pro I have Both
 
Bought. 4.2" S&W 686 today!
Im on vacation for about 10 days so I'm hoping to have the transport permit in my mailbox when I get home!
