So Im reading the editorial page by Gary Donald on the latest Big Buck mag and it reads that Sask has enacted new tresspassing laws.

It is now "an offence to enter enclosed land that is not posted with out permission"
So driving into a pasture with the gate open is illegal regardless of how its posted unlesss permission is given.

I was out this past weekend asking permission for a number of good mulie spots and nobody was allowing hunters this year because of so many idiot hunters who are causing trouble. I was upset due to the fact alot of good land is now not accesible but am happy for landowners who can now charge some of these clowns.

I have also heard rumours that next season, the Sask Party is trying to enact laws in Saskatchewan that would make hunters ask for permission to hunt on any property that was not their own whether it be an open stubble field or open treed up area.

I think it will be great, lots of guys are going to quit hunting due to the hassle and their will be more birds and deer for me on property I ask to hunt on.

What are your thoughts??
Cheers!!

What has happened is that Saskatchewan "sort of" caught up with the 21st century. The gooberment finally gave land owners the rights they deserve, however they didn't consider crown land access. In BC for example, you can't put a gate across a crown access road, even if it transits your property. In Saskatchewan you can block access to crown land. I think the gooberment will realize the problems they cause by eliminating access to crown land, and ammend the trespassing laws in the coming years to be more like BC.

The change in Gov. in Sask. has done nothing to change the communist type outlook that most in the province tend to have, more Gov. B.S. then before, if that's even possible. The Minister of environment won't even listen to the taxpayer when approached about hunting, i know I tried, like talking to the wall.

This will keep a pile of resident hunter from getting access. The outfitters will tie up piles of land and the locals will have to climb over each other to hunt on small parcels of crown land. Other than that you have to drive for hours to get to provincial forests.

I know that landowners have problems with jerks. But pasture land in the middle of nowhere with no cattle, buildings for miles give me a break.

What are we, feudal England where only the elite landowners own the game:mad:

Sounds like most of Southern Ontario...and our population far outnumbers yours.

Can you pay for access in Sask?

There is nothing preventing you from buying your own property to hunt on...then see how you feel about trespassers. ;)

Nothing preventing from buying my own property. How about $$$$$$$. We aren't all rich oil barons out here. And as for paying for access. I've bought a landowner a bottle or two as a thank you but paying to hunt game that belongs to everyone. I don't think so. I'll pay for transportation, guiding, ammo etc.. but I should not have to pay anyone to hunt on my own. How about taxes and liscence fees.

BTW I do respect the rights of landowners but a little understanding is called for on the part of everyone involved.

Ithought this was a pro gun party?

Liberals in sheeps clothing???

PK

Not so much "pro-gun" as a combination of "not anti-gun" + "not anti-hunting" + "not so much government interference where there isn't a lot of call for it from the electorate generally." And I think there is a tendency to perceive shooters and hunters as more likely to vote conservative so they do stuff for us that won't cost them too much with other constituencies. Hence, looking after the landowners with some new trespass laws.

The previous government, NDP, wasn't pro-gun, but they recognised there weren't going to be any votes for them in harassing hunters and shooters, so they made it policy not to prosecute gun registry offences and told the Feds to do it themselves.

You don't know the half of it....and 'jerks' don't come to your door with a sign around their neck saying 'jerk'. They sort of morph into jerks the next morning when they destroy $1000 worth of crop, driving around in it with an F-250 looking for a deer they 'think they hit'. Or a 'moose' that turns out to be an Angus steer. Oops!...or a brown, knee high, Heinz 57 farmdog that to them becomes a 'wolf!' and they 'do you a favor' by shooting it from a paved Primary Highway....

Don't tell me about 'jerks'.

Oh - and did I mention the bullet hole in my holiday trailer, parked 50 m. from my house?

Anyway, thanks for getting my blood pressure back up to normal.

Yeah that really sucks for you as well as legit hunters who want to take their children hunting and are denied access to alot of good hunting grounds.

Believe me or not there are some hunters out there, even some from the city that will respect your property and livestock.

Cheers!!

Any chance than an outfitter has been to these places you were interested in?
Common thing to tell us regular folk about our abuse of their property , then take a quick one from an outfitter. FS

I'm sure there are. My problem is, I haven't very succcessful at figuring out which are the good ones - and doing total strangers a favor seems to always cost me serious money.

I do NOT feel that it's my responsibility to help someone indulge their annual Ruark fantasy, especially at my expense. If the city guys want to hunt, they should hunt on Crown land like I do. If they want to shoot they should go to a range, not to my pasture.

If they can't find any Crown land, they can damn well buy their meat at Superstore and spend their weekends at the range. In the meantime, I promise not to graze my cattle on their lawn.

That sounds like a kind of a blanket accusation. I'll ask you to please give us ONE piece of documented evidence to support that claim, or kindly withdraw it.

Well your right 100%, sounds like you are a strand up guy. Enjoy your land and good luck hunting.

Cheers!!

It is the exact same reason it is so hard to hunt private land at home. I ask for access every year for every property, even my Aunts place.
Folks I have known most of my life won't let me on since some clown shot their cow/horse/Llama/sheep or left the gate open or what ever reason.

It should be manditory to ask for access. More so every hunter should have the integrity to go and ask for it instead of assume or worse, hope they don't get caught.

Actually, I'm just a grouchy old sum##### who's dug one too many rotten geese out of my combine, picked up too many broken beer bottles from my pasture, and taken too much crap from people who feel they have a RIGHT to do what they want on my land.

Some of the time folks can actually get along with me :D And I only fantasize about castrating a trespasser, I probably won't ever really do it.

I hear ya, we have a family farm in Manitoba which is loaded with geese every fall. The neighbor outfitts for geese and every year Americans accidently cross over and shoot. Neither myself or my father hunt geese but it can pee a guy off that these guys feel entiled to wander over. Never lost livestock or had building destroyed...that would really raise the temperature.

I now live in a urban setting but still like getting out but feel that alot of hunters have ruined it for the few good. Will it change for the better?? Probably not.

I belong to the SWF and a Fish and Game league wich gives me alot insurance in case of accidents. I think this season I will let farmers know this and maybe increase my odds of permission.

Cheers!!
