Hi All

I finally was able to get the old barrel off my Savage 10, and now it wears a Shilen Stainless Select Match 26" 8 twist ratchet rifling barrel. The rifle went into a Boyd's laminate heavy barrel stock.

Now it just needs a bedding job to compliment the Timney trigger and it's ready to go. Scope is a Falcon Menace 4.5-14x. I like the scope but would not get a FFP reticle scope for a target gun again. Saving for something nicer...

Cost for the rifle was about $450, the barrel was about $400, the scope was $450 and the stock was about $100. So total into it is $1400.

Barrel is from Mystic Precision and XRing Assassin showed me how to change it out. Thanks to both of you.

Well, a bit late but I finally was able to get out and put some lead downrange. This gun is beautiful. If any of you out there are shooting factory rifles and are thinking of putting an aftermarket tube on your gun, DO IT! It is simply amazing.

I shot two groups of 5, then started shooting at stuff. First off, I shot at the 300m 3" gong and hit it on the first try. I just held off 1.5 mils (what I normally would for my slow .243 load that I had memorized) and it was bang on. I went on to various targets and hit everything I wanted to. At 200m there was about a 0.5 mil drop, we have a small chicken sized gong.

The guns recoil is light, but I wish I had gotten a muzzle break so I could spot shots. The recoil is similar to a .223? Not sure what to describe it as but barely noticeable. In the future I'll try to set up the stock differently so it doesn't "jump" as much, more of a backwards push instead.

The scope's reticle transects approx 1cm at 100m also, which is a thick reticle. The squares in the targets pictures are 2cm square, so the reticle would completely obscure the holes.

The second shot (of five) was the flier for the top group. The first shot was the flier of the second. The top group felt all good, the bottom one the flier surprised me, I thought I had some more trigger pull before it went off.

For the load, it's simply 30.0 grains of Varget behind a 107gr SMK. I haven't done load testing yet, just pressure testing, and next will start increasing/decreasing by 0.1 grain and see if I can tighten them up a bit. It's pretty hard to complain about those groups though, and with a bit more ammo down range I can see if it I can tighten them up a bit.

So, to all of you on the fence, it's SUCH a huge difference shooting an accurate gun vs a factory gun. Go and Get One!

Looks sharp. I am very interested to see how she shoots. I love them savage builds... and remington builds........ and all build for that matter. Keep us updated and congrats on the rifle. Looks like you did a fine job.

Unfortunately, only 400m at my range. However, up here in Yellowknife there are lots of remote places in the bush that you can shoot at. Once I get some loads built up there are lots of winter spots you can snowmobile to and shoot as far as you want.

The furthest I've shot was with my stock Savage 10 in .243, out to 500m.

I'd like to get a lot further with this rig.

Its a great feeling when the barrel comes off the first time.

Is that the bull barrel contour. Just wondering how it balances in that stock.

2760 is pretty slow for the 6BR.

Most guys find a node around the 2920-2950 range (in a 28" barrel) try bumping the load in .2gr increments. I would think that 2850ish would be another good node to find.

Also give the Berger 105 VLD's a try (I prefer the Hunting VLD's due to the higher BC over the new thicker jacket Match VLD's).
