New Savage Axis .308

So I went and purchased a new Savage Axis in .308 this week. Quite possibly the best priced entry gun I found, dealer had a 50.00 discount and there is another 50.00 mail in. I see many complaints about the Axis model but here is my logic...

1. Availability in left hand
2. Calibre
3. Price point
4. Canadian Made rifle
5. Recommended by a friend, gun enthusiast and seller as a economical and accurate rifle.

I'm looking forward to putting a box down the barrel and writing a follow up on here. It arrives tomorrow
 
i have had a blued 223 in the past then got a stainless one and love it
just picked up a matching big sister in 308 to reach further out

Welcome to 2017 - we did most our buying back in December for this year.

Axis II XP (black or camo) is now about a $600 rifle.

The wood stocked version will go for about $650.

Ruger American synthetic, only $600 - want it coupled with a Vortex Crossfire II from factory? that will set you back $800

The Rem 783 synthetic with scope is still a relatively cheap $575'ish unless you want their wood stocked version also with a Vortex Crossfire II (maybe dumping them) - then you need to dig about $850 out of the wallet.

And not to be outdone, a synthetic Mossberg Patriot (also with the Crossfire II) will set you back about $625 - add another 125 bucks if you want the walnut stocked model.

That's your 2017 "line-up of budget rifles" :)

Holy $ith ... so humm what the hell are they going to do with there flagship line? I mean the rem 700 use to start at around $650, the savage 10tr with all the bells and wisle $640-700 and such?

So I guess I should hold on to the as new axis 2 in 223 I got for sale at my friends little shop as I only got about 50 rounds true it , got a scope sling and I am only asking $375. I should hold on to it for 2-3 months and ask $450 .lol
 
I have a left hand axis in 7mm-08 and it shoots great. I just find that chambering the first round is always less smooth than the other 3 for some reason. But apart from that, it is a sweet little gun.
 
I bought a savage axis in .223 when they went on sale for $289 and had a $50us rebate. Then I won an axis II in a raffle, I chose .243. They won't ever be a really high end rifle, but they hit like 75% of what you can buy for 5X the money. I haven't really tried the .243 at the bench but the .223 shoots moa or better without much load development at all. I'll try the .243 when it warms up and I have a free weekend, but from over the hood style sighting in and my 100 yard one shot whitetail, it shoots just fine.

I got my 7-08 Axis new last year for $250 on sale with MIR, so literally you use to be able to buy 3 of these for the price this "predator" is going for now. I hate it even though it shoots OK, and was about to dump it for $250 lol. Maybe I'll hang onto it for a bit...
I predict gun sales to be in sharp decline this year lol.
 
Here is a tip for the guys that want to lower the trigger pull on their axis. Remove the factory sear spring on the rear of the trigger assembly and replace it with an ar corking handle one. You will have to cut the new spring obviously but you will be able to get a 1,5 lbs trigger. Enjoy!!
 
My prediction is we will see a lot of discount sales this year on firearms.....but the sale prices will still be higher than what we are use to paying.
