New Savage Center Feed Mag System for 223

My only experience with a 223 in a factory hunting contour is with my Stevens.

It has shot 3/8 to 1/2 min average at 100 and 200yds with 75gr Amax.

That is pretty good for a factory rifle but will not win any 'accuracy' sports.

I would expect that sub MOA with a properly bedded rifle and load work up to be the norm.

I am in mid load development with my Stevens 223 and have an IMR 3031 load which looks promising and may get 1/2 MOA if I can shoot that well. But I'll likely go to another powder, probably Varget.

I want another Savage with a magazine - maybe .308, but thats only available in hunting contour barrel as far as I know. If I can't get it then I will look to Remington. Your post got me thinking about my Stevens
 
the one thing I dont like about my 12fv is the internal mag. man it would be nice to have a detachable magazine. would be super awesome to have a large cap, like 10, magazine.
 
Mag style should do nothing to aid or detract from accuracy. Just style and convenience of loading.

Savage does make a few 308's with D mag. Just look at their LE lineup. The HS model is offered at LeBarons at under $1000. This is a very nice rifle WITH a center feed mag in 308.

That's a decent value for a shooter.

I have been using Varget for my 223 loading of late and love it. Benchmark has also done well for me. CCI 450 primers are my choice.

Is there anyone out there using the new centerfeed mags with a Sharp Shooter Supply extended Mag? If there is, have you removed the block of plastic from the factory mag to avoid rounds getting caught on the bottomside of it? Or have you just continued the block the full depth of the SSS Extended Mag?
